Alethea's POV:

"What?!"

We all stared back at Miss Faragonda in disbelief, the weight of her words settling heavily in the air of her office.

"I—I don't think I can take classes at Cloud Tower for a week!" I protested softly, my heart racing. "I mean, it sounds really scary."

"What is that about?" Aisha scoffed, her voice dripping with skepticism. She shook her head, clearly not on board with this plan.

"Yeah," Stella chimed in, a dramatic flair in her tone. "Can you see me in some gothy witch outfit?" She spun around, showcasing three over-the-top Witch costumes she had conjured up with her magic, their dark colors and edgy designs making me stifle a laugh.

Miss Faragonda regarded us with her usual calm demeanor, though the flicker of amusement in her eyes quickly turned serious. "You must understand the dark arts if you are to face Lord Darkar," she explained, her voice steady. The very thought of venturing into Cloud Tower, with its brooding shadows and ominous energy, sent shivers down my spine.

"But couldn't the Witch professors come to Alfea?" Tecna interjected, her brow furrowing in confusion. "It's much more pleasant here." She gestured around the bright and welcoming office filled with warmth and light, in stark contrast to the foreboding aura of Cloud Tower.

Nods of agreement rippled through our group. "Exactly! I'm not stepping foot in a place that feels like a dark pit," I added, the idea of sleeping in a dorm filled with dark energy was quite unsettling.

Miss Faragonda shook her head slowly, her expression a mixture of understanding and resolve. "You have to immerse yourself in darkness to learn about it."

Before any of us could protest further, Mirta, who had joined us in Miss Faragonda's office, spoke up. "I could go with you guys as sort of an unofficial guide," she suggested, her eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. As someone who had once been a Witch at Cloud Tower, she knew the school inside and out. "If you study at Cloud Tower, you'll learn things about Witches that you couldn't learn any other way."

Musa stepped forward, crossing her arms. "Do you know what a Witch once wrote in my locker?!" Her voice dripped with disdain, recalling the cruel prank that had rattled her.

Miss Faragonda leaned forward, her gaze piercing yet gentle. "Are you familiar with the story of the noll and the trolls?" she asked, and we nodded, intrigued. "Think of yourselves as that noll, living among his enemies and learning who he was by learning who he wasn't."

I couldn't resist pointing out the flaw in her analogy. "Yeah, but, um, Miss Faragonda? In that story, the noll ends up getting eaten by the trolls." My friends cracked smiles at my sarcasm, the tension in the room lightening for a brief moment.
