Alethea's POV:
The wind swept across my skin, cold and sharp, but I paid no mind to it. Kneeling before Aisha, I ignored the grit of sand digging into my knees and the chill that seemed to claw at my concentration, as though urging me to break focus. We had all reverted from our Fairy forms to our civilian selves, exhausted by the battle. Still, even in this form, the lingering unease remained—we weren't truly safe. I could feel my magic, dimmed and weakened, reminding me how vulnerable we were outside our enhanced states.
After all, our Fairy forms are meant to amplify our powers. I hovered my hands, now glowing with a faint blue energy, over Aisha's eyes, focusing intently on healing her. But who was I kidding? My healing magic could never restore her sight; if it could, I'd have already returned vision to every blind person in the magical realms.
Not even my Enchantix could achieve that. I might be a full-fledged Fairy, but I'm no Fairy godmother from one of those Earth fairytales Bloom loves to talk about.
Frustration tightened in my chest as I gritted my teeth, wiping a thin sheen of sweat from my forehead. How could he? Aisha, terrified of the dark her whole life, was now trapped in a world of darkness.
"I'm so sorry, Aisha," I murmured softly, glancing up at Bloom and shaking my head. Her face fell, mirroring the disappointment I felt in my own heart. "Valtor's spell is too strong. We can't break it... not yet."
Aisha's once-vibrant eyes, now clouded and unfocused, glistened with tears. "So... I'll never see again?" Her voice wavered, and my heart ached for her.
Gently, I squeezed her shoulder. "No, Aisha. We'll keep looking, keep fighting. We will find a way to restore your sight. I promise."
Bloom's voice was steady, filled with determination. "You can count on it." Aisha's face softened, though a hint of hesitation remained.
"And until then, we'll be here for you," Musa said, her tone warm and comforting. She offered a small smile, and though Aisha couldn't see it, I knew it would bring her some reassurance.
"We'll look out for you," Flora added softly, her gentle resolve clear in her voice.
"That's right." Tecna nodded, and we all joined hands, a silent vow connecting us. No matter what, we would always support each other.
Tears traced down Aisha's cheeks, but a smile broke through. "Thank you, all of you."
Just then, Musa pointed to the water nearby. Bubbles rose ominously from below the surface, and a chill of tension ran through me. "Over there—something's coming up!"
We watched as a figure swam toward us, distinct from the zombie-like mermaids we'd encountered earlier.
"She's a mermaid," Bloom observed, her eyes narrowing. "But she doesn't look like one of Valtor's minions."
