Alethea's POV:
I cradled my pillow to my chest as I slept, the soft fabric a comforting weight against me. The sun began to beam through the blinds, its warm light creeping across the room. I stirred and groaned as the first beam of sunlight hit me, the warmth pressing against my eyelids, urging me to wake. But then, a sudden realization washed over me, clear as day: Today was the first day of classes here at Alfea. My eyes snapped open at the thought, my heart pounding a little faster with both excitement and anxiety. I slowly sat up, my vision adjusting to the dim light of the room, and there across from me, Stella was still sleeping peacefully on the other side of the room.
I laid a hand on my throbbing head, the remnants of sleep still clinging to me, and crawled out of bed. A warm shower would fix everything. I trotted to the bathroom, brushing my teeth and pouring water into the rinse cup. I drank it down, quenching the dryness in my throat, before stepping into the shower. The water cascaded over me, warm and soothing, like being wrapped in comforting arms that flowed around me, gently rinsing away the residue of sleep and leaving only a calm clarity behind. After showering, I changed into my usual outfit and let my hair fall freely, a little damp from the steam.
But as soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, I was greeted by pure chaos. Clothes were scattered across the floor like a storm had passed through, and there was Stella, throwing outfits out of her closet in frustration, grumbling to herself about not knowing what to wear.
"...Stella?" I called out, my voice cautious, knowing she wasn't exactly a morning person. It was clear that I was right as she turned to me, her glare sharp and immediate.
"Alethea!" Stella screeched, and I winced at the volume, feeling it resonate through my bones. "We're going to miss breakfast! Why didn't you wake me up?"
"Stel..." I gave her a bemused look, confused by her frantic panic when we still had an entire hour before class. We had plenty of time, but the storm of fury on her face suggested otherwise.
"What?!" she demanded, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"We have an hour..." I repeated, my voice calm despite the absurdity of the situation.
"An hour is not enough for me to get ready!" she snapped, as though the very idea of having a full sixty minutes was some kind of cruel joke.
And for a moment, I couldn't help but wonder how Radius—Stella's father—had managed to survive living with us. Mornings with us were always like this, chaotic and unpredictable. I was sure that the racket had already woken our new friends, but somehow, it helped ease the knot of nerves in my stomach. Rather than feeling anxious about our first classes, I found myself smiling, the familiar madness of the morning taking my mind off the impending unknown.
