Gwyneira flipped the page of the book she was reading, bouncing her foot on the ground. She sat on Altan's curled body, fearlessly using him as a cushion while the snake lay on the ground, half-asleep. Gwyn had learned to sit at the back of her parents' mansion and spend her time reading or playing on her own. Altan first started by watching over her in Krystal's stead, but somehow, he ended up being her butt cushion and sometimes, her bed or pillow.

Gwyn could hear the music going on inside and the loud cheers, but she didn't care. The tree was located quite a bit far from the mansion and since she had no enhanced hearing, the sounds were dull. She'd only gone in there, wished her brother a happy birthday, and slipped away after the cake was cut. She withdrew to her comfort zone, the place she could spend hours without being noticed despite the obviousness of the location.

"Altan, do you think I'll discover my powers later like every other werewolf?" She asked out of the blue.

Altan lazily peeled one eye open, glanced at her, and closed it back. "Inevitably. You come from a long line of shifters so it will be so,"

"But I'll be a normal werewolf. I won't have any special abilities like my parents or aunties. It'll suck to be the only powerless one,"

"It won't be that bad," Altan said, hissing his tongue. He couldn't tell her the truth about what he planned for her, not yet.

"Not that bad? Altan," Gwyn said with a rather calm voice and composed expression. "I'll be the only ordinary and I just might end up with an ordinary mate. Blanche already has Uncle Lenius waiting for her. He loves and adores her more than everyone put together and I'm sure that when she grows up to become a woman, she would marry him. She's going to be the wife of the Lord of—"

"The problem I have with you mortals is your tendency to envy those who are better than you. Why can't you just be happy for your sister? She is following her destiny. You should focus on bettering yourself and following yours instead of wishing that hers is yours. If I continue to hear more complaints about how she's better, I might as well remain in your mother's body for good." Altan spoke with a listless tone but Gwyn knew that he wasn't joking.

She looked up at the sky, remembering every time she told herself that. She genuinely wanted to love her sister openly and be happy for everything good that came to her, but she couldn't. To her, life wasn't fair and it didn't matter what anyone said because, in the end, she would always live in the shadow of her younger sister.

Altan read her thoughts and sighed. The child had no idea what he planned for her. But if things continue to develop like this, he would have no choice but to cancel it. Altan rose, his tightly curled body releasing. He had only one intention, he was going to have to manipulate the child's mind so she would start seeing things differently. And perhaps, speak to her parents about it. However, his black diamond-like scales turned gray, and all his dangerous senses awakened.

Altan immediately moved his body, wrapping it around the child and keeping her safe inside, but left her awake. He hissed and waited for who could alert his senses to the point of tremors. The answer was given to him when a void was opened and the being he never expected to see jumped out of the hole.

Gwyneira gasped and then stared at the stranger with awe. She instantly knew he wasn't a regular creature, anybody would the moment they lay eyes on him. And if not that, the whole jumping out of a white hole was enough proof. The being was a lion. The lion was the tallest she had ever seen but his height wasn't the only thing leaving her dazed and stupefied. The first thing was his snow-white coat and gemstone mane and eyes. His appearance was simple but exceeded the natural.
