Lynn's POV
Like the fuck! Who's the genius that decided to give two assholes this amount of energy? I'd love to pick a bone with them!
So far, my biggest challenge was them. The wizards didn't take long to deal with but the twins were trouble. It wasn't because they were stronger, it was simply because they could turn themselves into electrical and sound energy and disappear. That way, they were able to attack with occasional bolts of lightning and clash of thunder.
Frost and I backed against each other, looking around carefully. The only good thing was that they were trapped in Frost's domain so they couldn't get out unless they defeated him or he let them out—which is never going to happen.
Another bolt of lightning zapped at us from nowhere, aiming directly at his head. I pulled Frost forward as I dived out of the way and then we quickly backed each other again while I pulled up a shield to protect us. "Slippery weasels," Frost growled, hissing afterward as a powerful blast of thunder hit the shield. It was like before, they would overpower the shield with the force of thunder and then try to separate us.
"Their attack pattern is predictable but their attack isn't primitive. We need to think of a way to pull them out without destroying this space. Keeping them here is the best way to defeat them,"
"Don't you think I know that?" He snapped, frosting the ground underneath our feet. We dragged them into this space in the first place because we knew that if they were out in the real world, they could summon a disastrous thunderstorm. Lightning striking the earth wasn't what anyone needed and most importantly, we didn't know what type of weather phenomena would follow it.
"They can't use that spell while in here but the more time we spend lagging behind, the more the possibility of them having access to outside fattens. We need a plan, Goldilocks,"
"Don't call me that, Silvia," I hissed, reinforcing the shield. "And I think I have an idea, but it's going to be dangerous for you,"
"Are you thinking about using that ultra-explosive force or do you want me to use mine?"
"Yours will be safer, but mine will—"
"Be more effective but it will destroy this space and affect me greatly. Well, sorry to break it to you but I'll not lose any more energy. If you remember correctly, I gave a piece to my sister. I can't afford to grow weaker." That's practically the same thing! If he did use his one-blow attack, he would grow weak.
"You are wrong, Goldie," he shot out his hand, building ice walls around us. The walls were strong enough to buy us some time. "Releasing an attack inside my Frost domain and releasing the spell myself is different from being blasted out of my space and sustaining severe injury. Mind I add that your one-blow attack has more fire and solar radiation, and let's not forget lightning as well. Sorry, Brother, but I don't wish to suffer any more pain."
Okay, he has a point.
"The energy will freeze up this entire space so there is no place for them to hide. They'll be severely injured but that doesn't guarantee that it would take them out," I understood the meaning and nodded. Just to be sure they don't get to him before he gets to them, I reinforced the shield once more before he turned around, placed his hand on my back, and pushed me out.
I fell on the ground roughly, my body rolling in the snow for a bit before it stopped. I stood up and prepared myself for them. I was startled to see a huge snake not too far from me. It was as tall as a skyscraper with black diamond-like scales and glowing white eyes. The snake was looking straight at me, I could see its eyes fixed on me.
My body started to tremble and every hair on my body stood erect. My heartbeat began to palpitate, my teeth clanking against each other and my vision lost color spectral. I instinctively backed away from it, but I knew that no step backward I took would be able to save me from its eyes. I felt cold as if I was standing under the Arctic Ocean and staring up at a leviathan.
I'd never felt like a prey before.
I backed away even more but as I was backing away, I felt the dimension of Frost's space rips open from behind me so I turned around. Ice springs forth from the ground, one of the twin's bodies flying out of the space, trying to escape the attack. I jumped back as well to avoid the ice tearing me open. The other twin was impaled by two thin pieces of ice, through his chest and stomach.
I briefly forgot about the bigger threat standing behind me and created a thick chain made out of fire. I whipped the chain out, causing it to extend. I snaked the chain around the neck of the free twin, the lightning twin before he would notice me and turn into lightning, and yanked my hand backward with all my strength. The chain cut through his neck, tearing open the flesh and slicing through his cervical vertebra. His head fell to the ground and rolled again, making a squishy sound as it rolled.
I retracted the chain and twirled it around in the air. My plan was to do the same to the other twin, but a sudden flow of thick black energy dashed past me and latched onto their bodies. The rope-like energy snatched their bodies, dragging them past me. I turned around and saw that the owner of the energy was the snake. It tucked the bodies in the curled-up edge of its large tail and hissed its tongue.
I stepped back once again, feeling Frost step out of the space behind me. "What the fuck! Snake!" He screamed. I panicked and nudged him in the stomach, shushing him while glancing at the snake. It didn't attack me all this time so maybe it wasn't after me. "Snake," he whispered aggressively. "Giant snake,"
"Will you shut up?" I whispered harshly. I could swear it smiled just now. It looked away from us, turning its body around slightly and moving away slightly. Are we safe?
"Can you hear that?" My ears twitched. I was too afraid before that I didn't hear or feel it but I might be going crazy because it sounded and felt like Krystal was crying. That's impossible. "Goldilocks, is it me or can I hear my sister wailing?"
"Silvia, I can hear it too. Are we finally going mad?"
"There's a giant snake in front of us so maybe we have gone mad. Did we hit our heads somewhere? Oh look at that, the snake is reducing its size and I can still hear my sister weeping," Let's just admit it, we need to lie down and sleep for a while. I lowered myself to the ground and rested my back on the ground, folding my hands under the back of my head. I'll just sleep and wake up. Frost imitated my action and slept beside me.
The moment he lay next to me, it was like a thick cloud covered us and I dozed off. I was swimming in a void, a pitch-black void. It was quiet; it was peaceful. "Merlynn," someone whispered. "Merlynn," who the hell is calling me that name? "Alpha freaking Merlynn fucking Hubris! Wake the fuck up!" I jerked awake with a gasp, springing up from the ground.
I looked around frantically and the first odd thing I saw was Frost sleeping comfortably on the folded body of the snake like it was some kind of luxurious bed. I blinked awkwardly and tilted my head, disoriented beyond understanding. Am I dreaming? "Lynn," I snapped my head around to look at who was calling me, Krystal.
I first noticed her red eyes and the dried tears on her face. She was certainly crying. She looked tired and somewhat bright as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulder. Even her aura said so.
"Krystal?" I called puzzledly, unconsciously touching her cheek affectionately. She leaned into my palm, placing hers on the back of mine and smiling beautifully. "You feel different,"
"I'm free," she said with a small laugh, a joyous smile. "Well, almost. I need your help to bring my mother back to life, Lynn. Will you help me?" Her mother back to life? Luna Arabel? How is that even possible?
I looked at the strong determination on her face. Her eyes were filled with certainty, joy, and triumph. I didn't know what she had in mind but I was willing to trust her. With a small smile, I nodded. "Show me the way."
Two more updates and we'll be done with this book. Hang in there, guys!
