Scoffing sounds. From everyone on the side. Nasty comments. Insultive words. But she didn't care about that. Because, why will she be accused of stealing???. That's ridiculous.
"The thief is speechless", Sehwa said and a lot of the students snickered. A crowd had already formed for them.
Sehwa raised the necklace again like she had gotten her missing prized possession back, and the movement, the glint caught Daya's eyes again and like she finally got herself back, Daya slapped her hard across the face.
Smack. And then, pindrop silence.
The contrast of the sounds was funny.
Daya glared at the girl, whose face was still thrown the other way. "Thief?", she asked in a tone of disbelief, "The fucking nerve to accuse me of stealing"
Sehwa scoffed, looking back at the girl. "How else do you explain a necklace of a million won in your possession?"
Daya faltered. One million won?. Sehwa took her reaction as an evidence of theft. "I am right. You could never, honey. You stole it. You couldn't afford it so you got it stolen"
Murmurs.
"That's not a stolen item and it isn't yours"
"Who bought it for you then?!. This necklace is fucking mine!!!. I have pictures of it. Of me wearing them!"
Nari wanted to step up and tell who gave it to her but Daya placed her hand over hers, without even looking at her. Nari felt herself cool at that little gesture. While her hand was around Nari's, the other was tightened in a fist. "I have pictures of me wearing that necklace. When did you loose yours, Sehwa?"
"This morning", a friend of hers replied instead.
Daya looked through the students watching this show. "If I prove that I am the real owner of this necklace, I won't be calm for the slander", she let Nari's hand go and brought her phone out of her jeans pocket. Unlocking it, she went through he gallery, picking one of the photos Ryunjin took of her at the Hyundai event. She shoved her phone out, "This was taken weeks ago. Sehwa, you lost your necklace this morning"
Sehwa looked at the picture just as few of the students and her friends did same. She was smiling in the picture with her necklace proudly on display, mocking them.
"It's hers", little whispers.
Daya cocked her head, "What should I do?. Should I sue for defamation?", she withdrew her phone, looking at the crowd, they were now avoiding her gaze. How they could accuse her so easily, without getting their facts straight was just so insulting. She doubt they would have done the same if it was another student. She never had a problem with the other disrespects, but this was just the ice berg. A berg that cracked the more she thought of it.
She slapped Sehwa again for the rage of it, for the anger of it, for the disrespect, for the accusation. Everyone stared in shock. Even Sehwa couldn't believe it. She got hit twice on the same cheek, she looked at Daya and she took a step forward. "What?. What will you do?", Daya challenged. All she got was a glare. She knew she was wrong.
"We will take the necklace now", Nari said, prying the girl's fingers away from Daya's necklace. "It wasn't yours to begin with", with the necklace in her own hands, she gave the girl a little smirk. "Set your facts right before accusing another"
Nari hooked her arm around Daya, and the girl blew out a sigh, leaving with her. "It's okay, Daya", she quietly said, eyes ahead. "It's all okay"
Daya leaned more into her, giving a curt nod. The steak for the day was ruined. Her whole mood just went downhill and sour but atleast, for once, she acted out.
