Daya sat behind the counter of blossoms convenience store, books neatly splayed out in front of her as she wrote some of the break assignments left for her. The lady who owned this place allowed her to do her assignments and bring her books over. She hummed quietly to herself, marking out a few points to copy later with a pencil. The little bell above the door dinged and she looked up, seeing the pink hair first before Evelyn's smile. "Hello"
"Ah, hello", Daya greeted, pushing her books to the side and getting up from the seat. "Does your grandma stay around here?"
"Yeah, but the next street", Evelyn replied and Daya nodded. "I need a quick oat to make for my granny, her teeth aches, so she needs soft food"
"Oh", Daya stepped out of the counter. Oats by 12:00am though. Grannies. Evelyn followed her to one of the aisles and Daya helped her search for some oats suitable for grannies, "I have always wanted to ask but never got the chance.."
"What?", Evelyn asked and Daya looked from the rack, "Are you full Korean?"
Evelyn chuckled with a nod. "I am. My name right?", Daya hummed, picking out a box of oat with the instructions written on it. "I lived in the states for quite a time as a child and adopted it. My Korean name is Iseul"
"Pretty", Daya commented, crinkling her nose and walking back to the counter to ring it up.
"Oh, thank you", Evelyn said.
"My pleasure. 1,000won", she pulled out a plastic bag and dropped the oats in, handing it to the girl and collecting her payment. "Is there anything else because my shift ends now and I lock the shop after 12:00am"
"No. Nothing else. I will walk with you"
Daya tore her receipt out, "You live next street"
"There is a short-cut from yours"
Her left brow arched, "You know my street?"
"My grandma eats at the gukbap place and I buy some for her on my way home", she took the receipt.
Daya nodded, packing up her books. She put them in her backpack, recorded the last sales for the day and signed out, pulling her bag on her shoulders, she walked out with Evelyn, locking up the shop.
"You attend a school in Seoul?", Evelyn asked as they walked home together. Daya glanced at her. "Dayeon told me"
That bitch won't stop yapping her mouth will she?.
"Yeah. You?"
"I attend a university in Busan. Busan is an open place you know. It's like a city"
"Don't know, never been there"
"Oh really?. Visit me some time"
"Sure"
Someone she just casually spoke to today. Clownery. Busan is like a city.
Baby girl, it's that way because Busan has faced development. They weren't like that in a day.
Please, how does Dayeon put up with this girl?.
Evelyn glanced at the girl, "What school do you attend?"
"Sungkyunkwan. Why?", Daya eyed her subtly.
"It's nothing. Was just curious"
"Yeah sure. You go that way, right?", Daya pointed at the short-cut she had described and Evelyn nodded. "Be careful. See you at work", she bowed and walked away.
Evelyn smiled, "You too!", she let out and went down the road.
Daya glanced behind her, checking on the girl. When she didn't see her there anymore, she looked forward again, walking back home.
