"Mmh, eomma?", Daya said into her phone, head bent.
"Why did you fight?", Damin asked softly.
"Something out of my power happened, so.. I just did", Daya stared at her bruised knuckles.
"It was Dayeon, wasn't it?"
"Eomma, it's nothing huge. Just a small squabble. I am sorry I had to get you involved"
"Don't say that. The school had every right to call for me. I am your parent"
"I'm sorry", Daya apologised. "It.. it won't happen again"
"Will the disciplinary action affect your grades?"
"Hopefully not. I'm lacking on that already"
Damin kept quiet. Her daughter's life in school used to be so perfect and quiet and serene. What happened?. She was so shocked when a professor called her to complain about not just one daughter, but two of her daughters getting into a cat fight.
"Eomma", Daya called.
"Mmh?"
"It's nothing to worry about. I will be called in tomorrow and.. uh... if a professor or two even, advocates for you, your punishment might be less. I have been a good student", Daya blinked her eyes to avoid crying. Nari stared at her with a sad expression. Her sister wasn't different.
"Just don't tell haemoni. She won't take it well"
"Okay. I don't want to get calls like this anymore, please"
"I promise it won't happen again", Daya assured.
"Alright. Have a good night Daya"
"You too", Daya said. The line beeped. She pulled her phone down, staring at her hands on the table. They were all badly bruised but treated. Thanks to the school's nurse. The injuries on her face too was receiving its share of treatment.
"Is she mad, mad?", Nari broke the silence.
Daya shook her head. "Just mad and worried, worried"
Nari sighed out in relief. "What you did in school today was crazy. You were the one worried for your grades. A disciplinary action is more than what toy just sweet-coated to your mom"
"I know. It's worst but if I should go back to that hall, I will do even worse. I'm okay with anything that's not expulsion or repeating a year", Daya dropped her phone. She pushed her chair away, wanting to get to the bathroom.
"Unnie", Dayeon called.
Daya looked at the girl standing by her door. "What?", she asked.
Nari spoke instead. "Come on, don't be so harsh"
"Harsh?", Daya repeated. She walked to her sister and slapped her right cheek. "This is what it means to be harsh"
Nari jumped up from her bed, rushing over. She pulled Dayeon away from the door and further into the room. "What did you hit her for?"
Daya turned around to them. "You really don't know?. 2 million won debt?!!!!", she screamed and Dayeon flinched in her skin. "What?. She didn't tell me anything. Encountering those girls, beating one of them up and earning such a debt. She told me nothing!"
Dayeon shook her hand out of Nari's hold. She took a step forward. "What of you?. Have you ever told me anything?. Shall we tally the lies, Daya?. You have been lying and lying and lying to me"
Daya scowled, tears brewing in her eyes. "What lie exactly?"
"You have never been honest to me. Those girls said the same thing now and before. You are whoring around"
