A few days have passed since Y/W/N had gotten her warrior name. It had been pretty busy in the Thunderclan camp, especially since an outbreak of Greencough hit. Lots of cats fell ill, including Firestar himself, and they ended up having to put all the sick cats in the abandoned twoleg nest that was nestled on the edge of Thunderclan territory.
With Firestar having Greencough, Brambleclaw had currently taken over the leader position in the main Thunderclan camp while Leafpool and Jaypaw tried to cure the sick cats. The catmint they had been growing didn't live, so the medicine cats were having trouble with it.
Y/W/N was currently padding back to the hollow, a few pieces of fresh-kill in her jaws. She had been hunting with Hollyleaf, and the two she-cats had already dropped some fresh-kill off with the cats at the twoleg nest.
The two warriors padded into the camp and dropped what fresh-kill they had left onto the fresh-kill pile. Y/W/N noticed Jaypaw leaving the medicine cat den and after saying bye to Hollyleaf, she padded over to the apprentice, not noticing the other she-cat watch her pad to Jaypaw with a smirk on her face.
"Hey Jaypaw!" Y/W/N called out, and the blind tom turned towards her "Whatcha doing?" She asked, to which he replied "Going to try and search for catmint, why?" Y/W/N caught up to Jaypaw as he was at the entrance.
"I'll come with you! Me and Hollyleaf just finished hunting, so I was just have nothing else to do today" Jaypaw nodded and flicked his tail, acknowledging Y/W/N to follow him if she wanted, which she definitely did.
The two cats padded out of the hollow and through Thunderclan territory, going towards the outer border. Jaypaw had already explained that the catmint inside the territory was already gone, having been mostly killed off by the harsh weather, with what little was salvageable being used already.
Y/W/N and Jaypaw made it close to the outside border, each cat sniffing around for any possible sign of usable catmint. "So, I assume you also gave some prey to the cats at the twoleg nest? Did you happen to notice how their condition was?" Jaypaw asked, as he hadn't stopped by there yet today. Y/W/N sniffed through some bushes and emerged when she heard the tom.
"Uh, well, I think they're as fine as yesterday, I didn't notice anything had gotten significantly worse, and no one there told me anything about it getting worse." She replied, and Jaypaw nodded his head. "Alright, thanks"
The two cats padded along the border, searching and finding zero traces of catmint. Y/W/N went closer to the border and caught a small scent of a cat, one that she didn't recognize. She looked back at Jaypaw, who was still intently searching, and decided to quickly see what it was, maybe the cat had just strayed? They weren't that far from the border anyways.
Y/W/N padded away, following the scent. It led alongside the length of the border, not going towards it, but not going any further into Thunderclan territory either. She soon came upon a cat, and judging by the look of his pelt, which was kind of matted, he seemed to be a loner.
The cat turned around, having scented the warrior, and looked at her. Y/W/N was the first to speak; "What are you doing here?" She asked, narrowing her eyes at the cat. The loner seemed to study Y/W/N for a moment before just sitting down where he was.
"I was just walking" He said calmly, seeming unfazed by the clan cat. Y/W/N crept a bit closer, trying to determine if this cat was a threat or not. The loner just looking at Y/W/N, and didn't seem like he was going to attack, nor was he even in a defensive position.
"Well, you're entering Thunderclan territory, so you might want to head back the other way" She said, pointing in the direction of the border with her tail. "Oh, that's what those cat scents were?" The loner said sarcastically, letting the warrior know that he didn't care for the borders.
Y/W/N's fur slightly raised in aggression "Leave Thunderclan territory" She hissed at the loner, but he didn't make any attempt to move from his sitting position, just sat there. After a moment of Y/W/N trying to get the loner to leave, he suddenly said, still calm; "Well, I don't think I'm going to listen to a she-cat, especially when you're cute-" He was cut off by something slamming into the side of him, pushing the loner away and rolling him.
Y/W/N looked over to see Jaypaw, who was breathing sharply "Jaypaw! You ok?" She asked, going over to the blind tom, but he flicked his tail to signal the warrior to stay where she was. "I got this" He said, though Y/W/N could tell he was already having difficulties trying to pinpoint where the loner was.
"Well, seems like you're at a disadvantage" The loner mocked, having gotten up from the surprise attack. "I'll admit, you took me by surprise, but that won't happen again" He said, slowly stalking towards the medicine cat apprentice.
Y/W/N worried for Jaypaw, unsure of what she should do. Sure, she could easily just fight the loner herself, but it seemed like Jaypaw wanted to do it for her, but with his blindness that'd be impossible. Then she remembered something Lionblaze had told her a while ago, when the three siblings had first become apprentices.
"To your left and down!" Y/W/N called out, and Jaypaw quickly turned and swiped his claws low, barely scratching the loner, who jumped back. Y/W/N smiled, finding herself lucky to remember how Lionblaze told her about the only battle Jaypaw had taken a part in before, and how Lionblaze had helped his brother out.
The loner tried to circle Jaypaw, but Y/W/N called it out, letting Jaypaw track the loners movements and keep him from attacking. Soon enough, Jaypaw, with Y/W/Ns help, managed to start pushing the loner towards the Thunderclan border.
The loner figured out what was happening but decided to turn around and leave Thunderclan territory, giving Y/W/N an annoyed glare before disappearing into the undergrowth outside of the territory. Y/W/N chuckled and padded over to Jaypaw.
"Great job Jaypaw!" She said as the blind tom was grooming his fur back down, seeing as it had gotten ruffled in the little fight. "Thanks" He said, pausing from grooming his fur for a moment to give Y/W/N a thankful glance before resuming.
Once Jaypaw had finished, the two cats padded back to the Thunderclan camp, and as they entered Y/W/N realized something. "Oh mouse dung! We never found any catmint!" She said, and Jaypaw just shrugged "I doubt we would have. It's been hard this leaf-bare, especially with the ones we were growing having died" He said.
Y/W/N nodded. "I guess so. Still, I wish we would have found even a little bit." She said. Jaypaw gave her another shrug as Leafpool called for her apprentice. "Well, I'll see you later Y/W/N" He said, flicking his tail across Y/W/Ns side before he left for the medicine cat den.
Y/W/N purred slightly, watching Jaypaw head back to his den. I wish I could help him a bit more She thought as she padded over to the fresh-kill pile, grabbing something for herself and then headed to the warriors den.
