It had been a few days since Jaypaw and the patrol of cats he was with took the journey to help the Tribe of Rushing Water. Things in Thunderclan have gone back to normal, minus the fact that Stormfur and Brook had stayed in the Tribe, having been accepted back in. However, the clan kept going, knowing that the two cats were happy to be back in the Tribe.
Y/A/N was just about to leave the hollow with Brightheart to do some more combat training when Leafpool and Jaypaw padded up to them. "Hey Brightheart, let's have Y/A/N and Jaypaw train together" Leafpool suggested. It was common practice that medicine cats still get basic combat training, just in case there's an attack on the camp or they need to fend something off when they're gathering herbs. Even though Jaypaw had first tried to train as a warrior, Leafpool presumably wanted to make sure that he at least still knew of some basic fighting moves. Brightheart nodded towards the Thunderclan medicine cat, and the four cats padded out of the camp and into the training hollow.
The two mentors went off to one side. "Alright, let's have you two square off against each other, see how well you both do" Brightheart said. The two apprentices nodded and went into the clearing, a few tail-lengths away from each other. "Just because I'm blind doesn't mean I'm going to to go down easily. And don't you dare go easy on me Y/A/N" Jaypaw said, making the she-cat smirk. "I wouldn't go easy on you even if you had more than one sense missing"
The apprentices took a few moments, trying to gauge what the other one would do. Y/A/N tried just going after Jaypaw on his right side, since he was blind and trying to distract him with her gaze wouldn't work. However, Jaypaw seemed to sense where she was going to strike because he sidestepped to the left, causing Y/A/N to miss and fall onto her side, allowing the medicine cat apprentice to go for a simple pin. Y/A/N rolled out of the way just in time, making Jaypaws paws hit the dirt. Y/A/N rolled back up into a standing position, and tried to do a trick she saw Hollypaw use. She went to go under Jaypaws forepaws to get under him and use her hind legs to off-balance him, but again he sensed what she was attempting to do and backed up, leaving Y/A/N under him as he just flopped, putting his weight on top of the she-cat. After a moment of struggling under the tom, Y/A/N gave up. "Alright, fine, you win. How did you figure out what I was going to do?' She asked the blind tom as he got off her and allowed her to sit up. "I guess you can say I've got a sense of it, kind of something to replace my vision" He said, smirking at the she-cat.
Y/A/N gave a questioning glance towards Leafpool, who just shrugged. Brightheart, however, was trying to hold back her laughter. Y/A/N frowned and stepped a few tail-lengths from Jaypaw again. "Alright, I'm ready to try again" She said. Jaypaw nodded and prepared for her. Y/A/N went for a misdirect, charging at Jaypaws right side, but last minute moving so the she was charging him head on, but once again Jaypaw sensed what she was doing and simply swiped his paw downward in front of him, hitting Y/A/N across the muzzle. Thank Starclan we train with sheathed claws The apprentice thought as she felt the hit and stumbled backwards a little. She could see out of the corner of her vision that Brightheart was questioning Leafpool about how Jaypaw was able to predict Y/A/N, still trying not to laugh however. Leafpool had just shrugged, and Y/A/N decided she would try leaping onto Jaypaws back. She took a stance, waited a moment to see if Jaypaw would try anything of his own, then when he didn't she leaped, But it still didn't go according to her plan, as Jaypaw rolled to one side, causing Y/A/N to land with a grunt, and Jaypaw pushed his forepaws into her side, bowling the she-cat over and pinning her once again.
"Aw come on!" She whined, and gave up after being unable to escape his pin. "How are you so good at predicting me? Are you secretly not blind or something?" Jaypaw giggled and let Y/A/N go. "No, I'm blind. But you're not gonna find out why I can do it" He mused as she got up, panting for breath after her hard landing. Brightheart ended up giggling at her apprentices failure to defeat the blind tom, and even Leafpool was smirking. Y/A/N sat down and groomed herself. "I'll figure it out someday, and you won't win once I do" She said, shooting Leafpool and Brightheart a slightly confident look.
