Chapter 28

Y/W/N was prodded awake by a paw in her side. She opened her eyes to see Cloudtail staring at her.

"Cloudtail? Why did you wake me up?" She asked, before noticing the empty space where K/K/N should be. Panic filled inside of her as she scrambled to her paws, but Cloudtail shushed her.

"Don't worry! K/K/N's in Firestar's den. I just need you to come up as well. I'll let you decide if you wanna wake Jayfeather or not" The white tom said.

Y/W/N tilted her head in confusion. Why is K/K/N in Firestar's den? Did she do something? The queen padded out of the nursery and paused as she passed the medicine cat den, then decided to let Jayfeather sleep.

Y/W/N padded up the ledge to Firestar's den, worried about what her daughter may have done. As she entered she heard Firestar greet her.

"Ah, Y/W/N!" He said, though the Thunderclan leader definitely didn't sound happy.

"What happened?" Y/W/N asked as she looked down at K/K/N, who was looking at her paws in complete shame.

"Well, Cloudtail went to make dirt while on guard, and when he came back to his position, he noticed K/K/N's scent trail leading out of camp. So he followed it and grabbed her before she went too far and brought her back here" Firestar explained.

Y/W/N sighed and glanced at her daughter "I'm sorry Firestar, I should've made sure she didn't wander off" Then the queen turned to her daughter "What were you thinking K/K/N?!? Why did you leave the nursery in the middle of the night, and even worse, the camp?!?"

K/K/N looked up at her mother "I just wanted to try to hunt some actual prey.... I thought I could prove I could....."

Firestar sighed "Well, we have our rules for a reason K/K/N." He said as Y/W/N shook her head in disappointment.

"You realize Firestar can delay you becoming an apprentice for this?" Y/W/N asked her daughter, and watched the kits icy blue eyes widen.

Firestar nodded. "Y/W/N is correct. So far I'm thinking a few days delay, alright?" to which Y/W/N nodded, and K/K/N looked down, until her mother nudged her to acknowledge Firestar's punishment for the kit.

"Alright, you can go back to the nursery now" The flame coloured leader said, dismissing them. Y/W/N led her daughter down the ledge and back to their nest in the nursery.

"I can't believe you would do that K/K/N!" She said "Even on our own territory, there's so much that endangers you! There can always be foxes or badgers, and hawks love to target mice and kits!"

K/K/N nodded, a little terrified until Y/W/N sighed. "I'm just worried. You could've been seriously hurt, or worse, alright? Promise me you won't think about going out again until you're made an apprentice..."

K/K/N nodded and Y/W/N pulled her kit closer and nuzzled her. "Also tomorrow I think you should go to the elders den and help them out for the day. Whether it's with a task or just listening to them. I know Purdy loves to tell young cats his stories"

K/K/N barely nodded as she fell asleep beside her mother, and Y/W/N purred softly as she wrapped her tail around her daughter, making sure K/K/N was completely asleep before falling asleep herself.

In the morning as soon as Y/W/N and K/K/N were awake, the queen brought her daughter over to the elders den. She explained what had happened last night, and asked to leave K/K/N there to help them for the day, to which Mousefur seemed to chuckle at.

"Adventurous like her parents, huh?" She mused, but the elders agreed to K/K/N helping them. Y/W/N dipped her head in gratitude before leaving to go to the medicine cat den, hearing Purdy immediately begin to tell K/K/N a story of his.

Y/W/N entered the medicine cat den and found Jayfeather in the herb store, muttering to himself as he sorted through herbs.

Y/W/N poked the toms side, hearing him grumble as he turned towards her. "Who is it... Y/W/N? Where's K/K/N?" He asked as soon as he realized it was his mate.

"With Mousefur, Longtail, and Purdy. She's kind of in trouble right now" Y/W/N explained, and watched Jayfeather roll his blind eyes.

"What's she do, sneak out of camp to go fox hunting?" He joked, but when Y/W/N shifted, not answering, his eyes widened. "Wait, did K/K/N do that?!?!?"

Y/W/N touched her tail to Jayfeathers head. "Yes and no. K/K/N did leave camp last night, but it was to hunt regular prey, not foxes. At least Cloudtail found her before she went too far"

Jayfeather sighed "Of course. I assume you've talked to Firestar then? Why didn't you wake me?"

"Yes, and I didn't wake you because I know you're the only medicine cat on duty and you need proper sleep. Plus, by the time I was woken up, K/K/N was already in Firestar's den, so there wasn't much of a point"

Jayfeather nodded "Alright, I see your point. So, you gonna stay here while K/K/N hangs with the elders?"

Y/W/N nodded and Jayfeather gestured for her to come into the herb store "Alright, why don't you help me then?"

Y/W/N had learned some info about how the herbs were stocked between the time they announced their relationship and when she moved into the nursery when she started sleeping in the medicine cat den with Jayfeather, so she had some idea on what to do.

"I'm just checking to make sure all the herbs are still good. Will probably go get some more in a bit" Jayfeather said.

Y/W/N purred as she helped her mate with his tasks. "Well, it certainly seems exciting for you right now" She commented, playfully swiping her tail along Jayfeathers back

"It's better than a certain she-cat almost dying on me" Jayfeather responded as he pulled out some herbs to check. "Twice as a matter of fact!"

Y/W/N rolled her eyes, even though Jayfeather couldn't see it. "Well I was protecting kits and then you, so I don't regret it. I only regret ever worrying you" She said, leaning into the blind tom.

Jayfeather purred as he stopped sorting herbs and turned his head towards his mate "You know, leaning into me doesn't help me sort herbs Y/W/N" He said, nosing the she-cats neck playfully

Y/W/N chuckled and stood up straight again. "Sorry, I got distracted" She said, nuzzling Jayfeather before the two returned to the herbs.

After a little while they finished and left the den. Jayfeather nuzzled and gave Y/W/N a lick to the cheek before padding away to the bramble entryway.

Y/W/N padded back over to the nursery where the other three queens were, and where Dovekit and Ivykit were playing not far away.

"Oh, hey Y/W/N, where's K/K/N?" Ferncloud asked, seeing the P/C coloured queen pad up and sit down.

"Helping the elders today. She decided she would be adventurous last night" Y/W/N replied as she began to groom her fur, but her reply caught Poppyfrosts and Whitewings attention as well.

"Adventurous? Where'd she end up?" Poppyfrost asked "I assume she isn't hurt if she's helping the elders right now"

Y/W/N shook her head "No, luckily she didn't hurt herself. But K/K/N thought it would be a good idea to try actual hunting last night, and snuck out of camp"

"I see. How long was she out?" Ferncloud asked

"Not too long. It was barely moon high when Cloudtail woke me up to tell me he'd brought her back to camp. That was a fun talk to Firestar last time though"

Ferncloud chuckled "I bet it was. Elders den his idea?"

"No, mine. Firestar said he'd probably delay her becoming an apprentice for a few days"

Ferncloud nodded "Ah, that makes sense. So she'll probably then get apprenticed alongside Dovekit and Ivykit, instead of a few days before them"

The queens chatted for a while as Dovekit and Ivykit played nearby, and Y/W/N glanced over at the elders den to see K/K/N helping Mousefur with her ticks, though the kit seemed to be happy listening to the elder ramble.

I'm glad K/K/N didn't get hurt last night
