Chapter 36

K/A/N didn't care about who she was going on patrol with, but she could feel her mother watching her, and wished Y/W/N wouldn't be so interested.

Luckily when she had scented a vole through some bushes, Y/W/N seemed to have noticed something else and separated from the patrol.

Berrynose gave K/A/N some pointers as she stalked the vole and with ease she caught the prey, and just as they were heading back, Y/W/N reappeared with a loner tagging along.

K/A/N wasn't thrilled about her mothers choice to try bringing the loner back to Thunderclan, despite Y/W/N's own origin of being a loner. The apprentice was still unhappy with her heritage, and thought that the loner would just cause more issues in the clan.

The patrol had returned to camp and K/A/N watched as Y/W/N took the loner to Firestars den, and then sat through the loners apprentice ceremony, being named Emeraldpaw, and getting apprenticed to Y/W/N.

Though K/A/N never intended to ever interact with Emeraldpaw, when Y/W/N came around to show him the apprentice den, the tom had approached her and greeted K/A/N, which she did greet him back.

But Emeraldpaw decicded to stay and talk to K/A/N, and Y/W/N even left them alone, so despite her annoyance, K/A/N chatted with Emeraldpaw.

The tom seemed to have a nervous personality, but Emeraldpaw talked more calmly with K/A/N, though the she-cat never bothered to ask or figure out why.

K/A/N chatted with Emeraldpaw for a little bit, learning of how he was before Y/W/N found him. She felt a little bad for the tom, and even ended up assuring him that he'd be fine in Thunderclan, and wouldn't end up back on his own.

K/A/N left the apprentice den when the sun began to set and she felt hungry. She grabbed a few pieces of fresh-kill, then went over to the elders den to give Mousefur, Longtail, and Purdy something to eat before going over to a different area to eat on her own.

She watched some of the cats talk amongst themselves, and even noticed her parents leaving camp, though she didn't care at all. The apprentice was very displeased with her heritage, feeling like her very existence contradicted the way of the clans, and K/A/N solely blamed Y/W/N and Jayfeather for it.

K/A/N got up and stretched once she was done eating, and with a yawn she headed back over to the apprentice den to go to sleep, just noticed Y/W/N having returned and padding across the hollow, but the warrior went to the warriors den, not the medicine cat den as usual, but K/A/N didn't bother to figure out why.

K/A/N went to her nest and quickly found herself in the familiar Dark Forest. Since she held such a hatred for her heritage, Tigerstar thought it appropriate to recruit the apprentice for the Dark Forest cats cause.

K/A/N quickly found the group of cats and soon began her training here. Though the training was a lot more brutal than the clans way, K/A/N found it necessary if she wanted to prove she was going to be stronger than anyone else, despite the way her existence represented among the clans.

The only downside to it was having to go to the medicine cat den each morning and have Jayfeather treat her. She didn't care about lying to him about where her wounds came from, but she just didn't want to interact with him if she didn't have to.

But this time, while the grey and P/C apprentice was training, she found herself slipping up on little things here and there, as if her mind wanted to focus on something else, and it wasn't long before Mapleheart padded over, deciding to spar against K/A/N herself.

Though K/A/N tried, not only was Mapleheart a much more experienced warrior, but with the apprentices little slip ups, it wasn't too hard for Mapleheart to beat her each and every time, and the warrior noticed K/A/N's mistakes, mistakes that she shouldn't be having.

"What's wrong with you today?" Mapleheart said with a bit of a sneer. K/A/N had grown used to the Dark Forest warriors attitude, but she still wasn't used to being talked to like that.

"Nothing. I'm fine" K/A/N said, still unsure herself why she was making mistakes.

"Well, get it together. Otherwise we might rethink you being here" Mapleheart said, before leaving K/A/N to resume training with her normal partner.

K/A/N watched the warrior leave before she went back to sparring, though she did think about what could've changed to make her slip up like this, until she realized.
