Brandon's POV

"Mom, I thought you liked Linda."

"I did. I mean I do, but Brandon she's accused of arson and attempted murder!" After hearing Linda admit that she is responsible for setting her father's house on fire mom has been on my case.

"But..."

"Your mother is right Brandon. Right now we need to think about our company." Of course. All they care about is their precious company.

"I'm not marrying her." I said folding my arms on my chest.

"You grew up with her Brandon. Plus nobody knows you better than her. Except us of course." She rolled her eyes playfully.

"It's only for a few years. After that you can do what you want." Dad stated.

"Dad. I love Linda! I'm not marrying Ava and that's it!" I said firmly.

"Well then. If you don't marry Ava, you'll lose your stake in the business, your inheritance. Everything!"

"You wouldn't. Dad, I've worked hard for my stake at the company and you know it." They can't do this to me. It's not fair.

"I will do what I must do. You want a girl who can burn us alive if she doesn't get her way!?" Dad threw the newspaper showing Linda's photo on the front page on the floor proving his point.

"Mom?" I called but she shrugged.

"Fine. If I agree to this whole thing. How many years do I have to be in the marriage?"

"Four years. After that, you can do anything you like with whoever." Dad stated. Okay. I can compromise.

"Fine. I'll do it."
Mom got excited and tried to hug me but I resisted her hug. She doesn't care about me. She cares about the company.

The more I think about the more I realize... I'm just like them.

Linda's POV

"Okay. What if all of this go wrong?"

"Linda... I'll make sure everything goes according to plan." Dad reassured me.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked him. With dad you never know what he's capable of. What if he's trying to trick me?

"I owe you that much Linda. I've made your life a living hell. It's only right." He said making me smile.

"Thank you." He nodded standing up.

"Dad...?" He turned around quickly like he didn't expect me to still call him 'dad'.

"Take care of mom for me." I said with a sad smile.

"I will."

Brandon's POV

"Brandon! Brandon! Brandon look at this!" Mom yelled throwing her laptop on my bed.

"Read this." She commanded. It's so early for work.

I groaned picking up the laptop.

"What the heck!!" No. This cannot be true. How can this happen?

"Apparently the holding cell section burnt down. Linda was unfortunately in one of those holding cells." Mom explained the article for me.

"I gotta go!" I wore my tracksuit on rapid speed. This cannot be.
..........................

"Ms Craig? Is it true?" I asked my breathing heavy.

Linda's mom just looked at me with sadness. It's true.

She's really gone.

"My baby!" Linda's mom held Linda's photo in her hands. Mr Franklin was also there comforting Linda's mom. A tear rolled down my cheek. You can't be dead Linda!
You can't!
....................

It been a week after Linda's death. It still feels surreal but...

"Rest in peace love." I looked at her beautiful picture wearing her gigantic glasses. I kissed it knowing it will be the last time I see her smile.

Linda's mom was asleep throughout the service. Mr Franklin said he gave her some sleeping pills yesterday so she could sleep. Turns out she drank them in the morning.

I really misses her. My phone then vibrated showing me a text from Ava:

See you tonight babe.

Now that Linda's gone, I guess I can learn how to love Ava like a wife. That thought really creeps me out.

She was my best friend after all so it would be so hard right?
