Cyrus
Slowly,my muscles wake up when the sun touches me. I stretch one arm out still feeling the need to hold on to one of best nights I've had when I feel it-
That weight over my head, heavy and still. I get instant flash backs to my old apartment when my roommate left the door open and a racoon. Yes,a racoon. Jumped on my head only then did it realise I was not a landing spot but a living breathing thing do it scrambled. Left me with some pretty bad scratches.
I do what any normal person with this memory would,I punch whatever this animal is and pick up the nearest weapon which is Aaron's pure cotton and feather pillow. Except it doesn't screech like a racoon and is way too big to be one. It's a man.
Aaron.
I just punched Aaron in the face.
I drop the pillow unaware pf what I'm supposed to say or do to this man who is wincing in pain. "Good morning to you too I guess."he says gruffly, his morning drawl which I was yet to hear all this time still fresh. He squeezes a hand over his right eye, hissing at the pain's sting I think,
"I thought you were a racoon-"I blurt and only after I've said it do I realise how dumb I sound,
"A racoon? How does that even work."he sits upright and I know this a bad time but he has pretty adorable bed head.
"Long story-"I also sit straight as we both lay in this unmade bed where I barely remember falling asleep in. It was just me and Aaron talking and then I can't remember the rest. "And you were so close-"
"I was so close? You were the one who used me as a human body pillow in the middle of the night."my cheeks redden at the accusation and I scramble to find words like the air was just beaten out of my lungs,
"If you knew why didn't just wake me."I snap and frowns hard at me,
"Wake you? You think I have time to be waking you in the middle of the night?"I nearly gasp at his back because he's such a coward he's putting on his godforsaken animal house slippers to run away,
"Yeah,I mean you were awake weren't you?"this is why we shouldn't sleep in the bed. Someone take a photo so I can use this as evidence in court. By court I mean me and Aaron arguing. As usual. "It's not hard,it's like waking someone up when their snoring."
"Oh did I mention you snore too?"This pretentious dirt bag-
"No,I do not Mr There's gum in my shoe personified."I yell just so he can here me well enough from where the door. He swivels on his heels and turns to face me,I kinda want to laugh because his hair is up in all directions, his face still has that just woke up look to it. I don't care how handsome he is it still looks a little silly,
"Oh,I'm just that annoying to you, huh?"
"This is why you two should have gone on a honeymoon."me and Aaron both startle at the sound of my grandma. She stands at the door with a tray of two glasses full of water and half a lemon,
"Nana."I breathe and it becomes obvious that she heard our little debacle.
"When me and my husband were in this stage of marriage we we're inseparable. We never argued."A pause as she puts one glass on the night stand beside me,she squeezes the lemon into it,"I think it was because we had a near perfect honeymoon. Ah,I remember it like it was yesterday,Paris. He surprised me with it actually."her eyes go dreamy for a second as she recalls the memories,
"I- well it was Cyrus' fault."Aaron blurts like its his mission to do that,
"Way to act like the bigger man, burnt pasta pot."
"Cyrus!"Nana places her hands on her hip like she always does when she's scolding me I pout because why am I being reprimanded?
"And Aaron saying that wasn't very nice. You two need to be more accommodating of each other."she says giving Aaron his glass of water,"I brought you both water because I heard you two staying up late last night talking to each other so sweetly and I know staying up late can make your head hurt in the morning. I wonder what happened for me to find you two arguing like this."she shakes her head as she squeezes the last drops of lemon into Aaron's glass,"Cyrus never acts like this. He's a very sweet boy, trust me. A little stubborn but sweet."
Aaron looks at me with squinted eyes and I just know he's saving that information, like I think he is everything. Like I'm some sort of puzzle he should be solving,
"What in the world happened to your eye?"she asks brushing a thumb over Aaron's now swelling right eye,
"It was an accident."I say before Mr tattle tale can tattle on me,
"Oh? You thought he was that raccoon in your apartment the other time? That place was never good."she shakes her head and I see Aaron process that information silently. What will him knowing about how I used to live do him any good? And yet I still don't want him knowing anything about it. Like I'm trying to hide it from him for whatever reason,
"Make sure to put ice on it Pumpkin."she pats Aaron's shoulder and I'm left wondering when he got to get called Pumpkin too. Hmph! All because he can cook a little.
