Matthew 26: 38 "my soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death"
I think we tend to forget that Jesus knew what was going to happen
He knew when his last day was his last
Instead of hiding or running
He turned to god
He accepted what was to come
He had full control
He could have called down a host of angels to his side
He was cursed with the knowledge of what was to come
He prayed so hard that
His sweat was that of blood
He was bleeding for us before he even was nailed to the cross
And yet
he endured the cross
Not only did he endure the cross
He endured the torture of the very people he was dying for to save them
He had to endure friends turning their back
The people who worshiped him just a few days ago
Begging for his crucifixion he spent 4 hours struggling to breathe
Struggling to live
Feeling the weight my
Pain
Greif
Torture
Of sin
He had to face something none of us have
Which is god facing away from us
God had to turn his back on Jesus so he could face us
Even when he faced the cross
Even when he had already been beaten
Tortured
Maimed
Even though he was the one desperately in need of comfort
He in turn comforted those who mourned him
With the cute on his back
Intestines spilling out
Ribs on full display
Splinters deep into his skin
Bones
Organs
When he saw his people crying for him he said in
Luke 23:28
"Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me"
After all of this
Once he was on the cross
Struggling every minute to just breath
When he saw the very people he loved and wanted to save curse his name
Even through all of that
He told God
Luke 23:34
"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing"
He protected us from God's wrath
At any time God could have said enough
I have sent you your messiah
I have sent you the one who will save you
And this is how you treat him you are unworthy man's he could have stopped it all for happening
But he did
Be as the loves us
Because he wanted relationship with us
Because he knew were we fall short
He is strong
