Wattreader7389I was originally going to name this chapter "One Bad Boss" (Samuel152's favorite OST), but it didn't fit the main topic of the chapter, so I switched it with this one (One Bad Boss will be the name in one of these upcoming chapters, mark my words).
Third Person Omniscient.
As the night was young, Lena was just getting ready for the nightly patrons to barge into her facility and demand for a drink. But first, she grabs a little bottle of some liquid that isn't specified and takes it up to the edges of the glass bottle lodged into her orbital.
Painfully, she squeezed the bottle to leave droplets at the edges of her 'monocle,' agitating the injured surface of her pale skin when it drips down onto it.
"Ow! Es tut sehr weh!" Red Crystal muttered under her breath while continuing the process until she covered every bit of the surface of the beer bottle.
She heard the door opening while she finished putting away the bottle.
"One moment, I'll be right with you." She bends over to put the bottle away and grab a platter, standing up straight again to greet her first customer. "What will it be--"
"Hello."
Lena dropped the platter, causing it to fall on the floor and making a loud clanging sound. "Gott hilf mir... Moonlight, I thought I'd never see you again... not after what happened on the news..."
The gem's eyes were their usual intimidating self, soulless black with little dots. What really frightened the skeleton was Moonlight's smile, it looked uncanny and felt forced.
"Oh, don't worry about that." Moonlight dismissed with a small wave of her hand. "I'm just here for a drink."
"O-Okay..." The German bartender leaned down again to pick up the platter she dropped and then a glass cup for Moonlight.
She nervously sets the glass down on the counter and then retrieves a bottle of her finest Crystal Wine that she brewed this morning. Her arm shakily poured the liquor into the cup, all the way Moonlight is still smiling and showcasing her nightmare-fuel eyes.
"So..." Lena nervously starts up to strike conversation with her old friend, yet she feels like she's in danger here. "How are you doing...?"
"Great." Moonlight chirped while patiently waiting for the drink to be served.
"Um... are you sure about that?" She's treading on dangerous grounds by questioning her right now. "The news just announced your resignation and your court meeting is in the morning... That's not usually something you could just shrug off..."
Moonlight's smile didn't falter. "Don't worry about that."
"You're scaring me..." The skeleton's bony fingers slightly trembled as she finished pouring the bottle and setting it down to the side, sliding it over to her patron.
"Why?" The ex-governor's face still had its jolly exterior, but her eyes were still dark and grim.
Even though she has superpowers that could save her, Lena still felt in mortal danger. "Your... Your smile... It's frightening... Why are you smiling?"
"Oh?" Moonlight took a quick sip. "I'm just trying to smile the troubles away... Spinel once told me that it helps..."
"Is it working?" Red Crystal inquired, mostly out of fear rather than curiosity.
