"You've been single for too long Lee! It's time you find someone to date!" Sam stated as they stood in line at the local coffee shop. "You say it likes its the most easy thing to do! I just moved here...a month ago!" Lena replied. "Exactly! A month ago! And it's been two years since you and Andrea split up. It's time! You know what? I dare you to ask out the next person who walks through those doors!" Sam added as they walked over to a table. Lena thought about it for a moment before agreeing to the stupid dare.
They sat there for a while longer both enjoying the conversation they were having when the door opened revealing a blond woman walk in the shop followed closely by a short haired red headed woman. "There's your chance!" Sam whispered. "There obviously a couple already...I'll just wait..." Lena replied sounding defeated. They watched them order their coffees before the redhead's phone rang.
"Who was that Al?" The blonde asked. "Mom! She wants us to come visit this long weekend, if we're both able to get time off. More so me, than you...but she'd really like to see both of her daughters." The redhead stated. "Ok! I'll call you later when I get stuff situated for the long weekend. I've got to run now Alex...I'll see you later for game night!" The blonde exclaimed as she made her way to the door.
"See ya! Kara! Wait! You forgot your phone!" Alex called after the blonde who came running back inside. "Go! Ask her out!" Sam exclaimed pushing the now standing Lena towards the blonde who was fumbling with her bag. Lena fell right into the blonde thanks to Sam's help. "Oh! I'm so sorry!" Lena exclaimed apologizing to the blue eyed blonde. "It's quite alright! No harm done!" Kara replied.
"I'm Lena by the way." Lena stated with a smile. "Nice to meet you! I'm Kara! And I'm running way behind schedule...so if you'll excuse me..." Kara began but stopped to look up at the woman. "Let me walk you out!" Lena stated holding the door open. The two of them walked outside and stood there on the sidewalk making small talk. "So you said you were running late? What do you need to hurry off to?" Lena asked. "Oh...I have to get to my job." Kara stated. "What is it you do?" Lena asked. "I'm...a...reporter. I work for CatCo." Kara replied. "A reporter ? Hmmm? I wouldn't have guessed that." Lena replied.
"Yea.. and I'm running really late now..so unless there's something else...I should be going." Kara replied. "Actually! There is..." Lena took in a long deep breath before continuing. "Would you like to get lunch sometime...with me?" Lena asked. Kara looked at her for a long moment before replying. "Sure. Actually let me give you my number so you can let me know when you're free." Kara stated writing down her number on the napkin that once held her doughnut and handed it to Lena. "I'll text you so you'll have my number." Lena replied with a smile.
All the while Sam and Alex stood inside the coffee shop with bright smiles on their faces. Alex was happy that her younger adoptive sister was finally getting back into the dating world. And Sam was over the moon to see her best friend finally getting a number of someone who appeared to be a hell of a lot nicer than Andrea.
