Changes and Decisions
>>>>———— ♥️ ————<<<<

Pesama na aanike nee sonnadhae ketrukanum

( I should have just listened to you the other day)

Siddharth blinked, his eyes darting around in playful suspicion. His finger tapped his chin as if contemplating a grand mystery,

Inniki na yedhume panlaye?

( I didn't even do anything today?)

Neha clicked her tongue making Siddharth chuckle and wrap his hands around her shoulder,

Ippo yenna achu?

( Now, what happened?)

Therila, ana na romba selfish'ah aitenno nu thonudhu

( I don't know, but I feel like I've become so selfish nowadays)

Neha mumbled, making Siddharth sigh.

Doctor, ungaluku..

( Doctor, for you..)

He tapped his finger on her head where her brain was at and said,

Idhellam nalla dhan vela seiyudhu, ana..

( This is working fine, but..)

He then tapped his own chest where his heart was at and said,

Idhuku dhan adikadhi yedhachum agirudhu

( This sometimes ends up malfunctioning)

Neha playfully tapped Siddharth's chest, feigning annoyance as he chuckled beside her. She turned away from him, crossing her arms on the kitchen island as she took a sip of her milk. Siddharth sat down beside her, resting his head in his hand as he watched her with a smile. Ignoring his gaze, Neha pushed the plate of heated food she had prepared for him, pretending disinterest. But Siddharth couldn't help but find her adorable antics endearing.

Namba anniki sandha podhlana yenna airukum?

( What would have happened if we didn't fight that day?)

Yenna airukum?

( What would have happened?)

Onnu marirukaadhu, kadhaisi varaikum enna mathavanga purinjikitta podhum, na yaarayum purinjikae venamnu nenachu apdhiye sutitu irundhurpen. Neeyum yaar yenna sonaalum ding'uh ding'uh mandhaiya aatite suthitu irundhurpae.

( Nothing would have changed, I would have stayed the way I was, hoping everyone to understand me and that I don't have to understand anyone. And you would have stayed the way you were, always nodding your head at everything.)

Neha turned to Siddharth with a befuddled look on her face,

Kadhaisi varaikum namba yaarunu namake theriyama suthitu irundhurpom, adhu yenniko oru naal perusa vedhichirukum

( None of us would have known the true us until one day it would have blown into something more big)

Now everything has changed, neraya mariruchu. Namba maaritom

( But now everything has changed, so much of it. We have changed.)

Siddharth's gaze softened as he listened to Neha's words, sensing the weight of her self-blame. In that moment, he understood something crucial: Neha was shouldering the burden of their changing dynamic, blaming herself for every shift they experienced. Yet, Siddharth couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt himself. If only Neha had acquiesced to his wishes as she usually did, perhaps they wouldn't be grappling with these complexities now but would they have ever known their true selves?

He couldn't bear to see her blaming herself like this.

Yella neramum yellarkum yellavamum irukuradhu kashtham Neha, adhe nerathula yaaralayum nambala rely pannamudhiyadha alavuku irukuradhum kashtham dhan. Adha dhan namba rendhu perume pannitu irundhom. Rendhume lonely ana vazhka, it had to change.

( It's hard to be everything for everyone at once Neha, and it's equally hard to be nothing to no one. It's what we used to do. Both are lonely roads, it had to change.)

Siddharth could always rely on Neha even with his eyes closed, she never hesitated to say yes to his decisions, her meals were always meticulously prepared, her reminders kept him organized, and her understanding nature accommodated his quirks. In every way, she had been his rock. But had he ever truly reciprocated those gestures?

Could he be as open to Neha's suggestions as she had always been to his? Had he ever proactively stepped up to share their responsibilities without being prompted? While Neha tirelessly supported him and made an effort to understand his career demands, had he reciprocated in kind? Had he ever taken the time to memorize her work schedule? Had he ever stayed up late to prepare a comforting meal for her after a taxing day? Had he ever considered her preferences before making decisions?

Despite knowing that Siddharth might never fully accept their union, Neha had committed herself to him, becoming the backbone of their family. She had selflessly shouldered the responsibilities, allowing him to pursue his carrer without worry. Yet, Siddharth wondered if he had ever truly appreciated her sacrifices until their recent argument, did he even care to notice it until that fight?

Why did he marry her again? So that his mother would be fine. Why did she marry him again? So that his mother would be satisfied with his life.

Neha had no friends, no social life outside of their home, and yet she had never complained. Meanwhile, he had been oblivious to her needs and desires, never bothering to learn even the simplest things about her. He had been content with her nodding and smiling, never realizing the depth of her loneliness and unmet needs.

Neha hooked her hands around Siddharth's arm and rested her head on his shoulder,

Appo oru vela, na unaku pudhikadha yedhayum panna, nee adhe madhiri kova padha maathiya? En kitta inime pesa matten'nu solluviya?

( Then, if I ever end up doing something that you don't want, would you get angry on me the way you did? Will you stop talking to me the way you did?)

Will he push her away again? Will he stop caring for her again? Will he find a way to push hr away again?

Na yedhayum promise panala, ana at least mulusa kettu, purinjipen

( I won't promise you on anything, but I can promise you that at least I'll try to listen and understand)

Siddharth had come to realize that when someone did something he dislikes, he had never given them the moment to even explain it. When he found out that Vasundhara had tried to hook his marriage with Neha, he had triggered her marriage as an example and stormed out of there. When he came to know that Vasundhara lied about her health, he had stormed out of that place. When he came to know that Neha wants to go on with the surgery, he had told her that it will cause dispute between them but he didn't even try to understand what she was saying.

His entire life, he had let that man's deeds and the consequences to over power him until it caused him to never truly love and appreciate the people around him, and he wanted to change that.

Siddharth bumped his head on Neha's playfully as he hopped down from the stool and ambled over to the sink to wash his dishes. Meanwhile, Neha sat perched on the counter, contemplating an important decision she had just made.
