Eggshells
>>>>———— ♥️ ————<<<<

Siddharth found Neha wiping the counter, as she cleaned up the spilled powder. His frown deepened as he approached, noticing the emptied container nearby. Recognition dawned on him as he realized that this was the same container he had filled with chili powder just yesterday. Concerned, he gently placed a hand on Neha's shoulder, silently offering his support as he surveyed the mess before them. It was clear that something had gone wrong, and Siddharth was determined to get to the bottom of it and make things right for his wife.

Adhukulla molagathul mudhincha?

( We're out of chilli powder that fast?)

However, Neha with a weary smile answered him,

Illa, patti yennamo yedhuka pathapo, kottirichu. Nee enaku mela iruka packet'ah yedhuthu thariya?

( No, grandma was trying to take something, she accidentally dropped it. Can you take the other packet from there?)

Siddharth nodded in understanding, but a nagging feeling of suspicion lingered in the back of his mind. Neha's unusually over calm expression only added to his sense of unease. Sensing that there might be more to the situation than met the eye, he reached up and opened the top shelf, retrieving the extra packet of chili powder they had bought. As Neha moved to take it from him, Siddharth denied. Instead of handing it over, he held onto the packet

Inga va

( Come here)

Wrapping one arm around Neha's waist, Siddharth swiftly guided her to sit on the counter, wanting to relieve her of the task. With a reassuring smile, he gently took charge, determined to handle the cleanup himself. As Neha watched, touched by his thoughtful gesture, Siddharth set to work.

Yenna achu..?

( What happened..?)

Siddharth persisted in his attempts to coax the truth from Neha, but she simply smiled at him, her expression serene as she shook her head gently. Content to remain in his embrace, she rested her head on his shoulder, watching him pour the chili powder into the container with a sense of calm detachment.

As Neha found herself lost in her thoughts, she couldn't shake the feeling of being under constant scrutiny since their family's arrival. It wasn't just Grace—every aspect of her behavior seemed to invite criticism. From the food she ate to the portion sizes on her plate, nothing seemed to escape judgment. Even innocuous comments about the way she walked took on a weighty significance, as if every movement she made was a potential hazard for the baby. The weight of these constant evaluations bore down on Neha, leaving her feeling self-conscious and insecure in her own home. Despite her efforts to brush off the remarks, they lingered in her mind, casting a shadow over her confidence and sense of belonging.

But they were all mothers, they've been mothers for years, whatever they say it might even be true but was she ready for these critizes yet? If she has so much to worry and be judged at even at the 3rd week of her pregnancy, is she ready for everything that comes from now?

Is she ready to walk on eggshells 24/7?

Siddharth looked over his shoulder and saw Neha lost in thoughts.

Now, in the morning, when his mother first made a comment at Neha's breakfast, saying that she should change her dietary to suit the baby, Neha had simply nodded her head, like the good person she is. But Siddharth isn't and he had gently told his mother that Neha will eat what she wants and he will watch over it, end of conversation. But her side of family, he found it hard to converse with them, neither did Neha set boundaries with them.

They can't just walk in and make comments about Neha's clothing, saying that it's too tight, they commented on how she had furnished the house, saying that she needs to make a lots of changes to suit the baby and worse of all, they wanted her to get rid of Kaattupoochi! How could they? Siddharth had taken extra precautions to leave the cat in their room , he checked it now and then to make sure he was okay.

The things that they were saying truth or not, he believed that there was a way for it. Thus, just by seeing her face, Siddharth understood that this was also related to that. He cleared his throat,

Neha?

Hmmm

Un paati usual'ah enna dhane yedhachum sollum, indha thadava yepdhi nee maatunae?

( Doesn't your grandma always have something to say about me? How did you get caught this time?)

Neha looked up in a jolt at Siddharth's remark before she burst into laughter, easing him.

Then it occurred to her, Grace always has something to say about Neha. Pregnant, not pregnant, married, unmarried, well-dressed, under-dressed, the list could go on. They all solemnly believed that Neha needed their advices and Grace's chiding as she didn't have a mother to direct her towards all the things that they believed should be taught by a mother.

But then Neha realized, when she had went through all that after understanding her grandmother's true intentions, why not this too? Brushing away all the comments, Neha wrapped her hands around her husbands shoulder, feeling grateful to have him as she delivered a loud kiss on his cheek.

Aiyayo! Na yedhuvum paakala

( Aiyayo! I didn't see anything!)

Joseph who came back to check on his daughter did not expect this, he instantly turned around, embarrassed to have interrupted the couple as he walked front with his face covered with his palms.

Siddharth laughed at Neha who identically covered her feeling embarrassed, much like her father.

Hi everyone! I hope you're all good!

So I know this chap could have been a little sensitive, and I hope I didn't wrongly convey anything. I'm not trying to project the sudden outburst from family members when receiving such news is wrong, I'm not saying that the advices are wrong, but I've just always thought that there are ways to say it. Maybe in a tone or gesture where it doesn't make the mother feel like what they've been doing till now is wrong, just because the advice we keep is correct. Leave it to them to decide if they wanna follow or not, never force ur advice or opinions on people, avlodhan.

I hope I didn't touch any sensitive issues, just my opinion. I have a lots of elder cousins/akka's who are much older and married, so there was a phase where there was alteast one of them pregnant, 🤣😭, adhunala these are the things that I saw happening in my own family to them. I felt very bad and understood their struggles. so I thought of writing that into this pregnancy portion of the story.

So, neenga yaarum vera yedhukum bayapadha venam, idhuku mela ennala spoilers um thara mudhiyadhu, but the next set of story will be about this. Even the emotional twists that i mentioned, perusa onnum illa, just emotional moments between the couple avlodhan. Andha twist kuda happy twist dhan.

In any case if u guys feel like its boring or sensitive or anything, pls feel free to let me know. Thank you and love you all
