Today I woke up very early (even though I stayed up late last night) because classes start in two hours. So I took advantage of my insomnia and went for a walk on the beach with Kimba.
The sunrise appears strongly, which lifts my spirits a bit.
I started to imagine what school will be like and how I'll fit in.
I stopped thinking and tried to psych myself up and not be so scared of socializing.
Despite the early hour, it's 6:30 AM, there are quite a few people starting their day.
There are about four people walking their pets on the beach.
Kimba went to the shore and started splashing around. We played for a while and then went back home.
Everyone looked half-asleep having breakfast at the kitchen island.
I looked like the only survivor of a zombie apocalypse. "Good morning," I said, hoping to spark some conversation.
"You woke up early, Vicky," my father said while preparing his coffee.
"Yeah, I went to the beach with Kimba."
I grabbed my coffee and had a piece of toast. I went upstairs to shower, but someone was in the bathroom, probably Romina, who takes forever.
"Romina! Are you going to take much longer?"
"I'm coming out," she said calmly.
"Your 'I'm coming out' is 'I'll be out in eight decades.'"
She came out of the bathroom all made up. It was obvious.
"Makeup comes first," she said, stating the obvious.
"Couldn't you do your makeup in your room?"
"Yeah, I could, but I did it in the bathroom."
"You're not the only one in this house."
"Well, dress in your room."
"Does the room have a shower?"
She sighed irritably and left. After showering, I got dressed and grabbed my backpack, all in a hurry. What stress.
Luke is at the door with his skateboard. We walk because the school is quite close. In fact, almost everything is close by.
"Let's go to the best place in the world," he said, sounding bored.
"What great motivation for someone who's new to a school."
"Sorry... it's not that bad. It's just that sitting on a bench for hours... is boring."
He threw his patienta to the ground and started walking. He didn't go far so I wouldn't lag behind. Besides, he's my guide because I still don't know exactly where the school is.
On the way, we talked about everything. He told me about the atmosphere at school, the teachers, the breaks, and the subjects.
"You won't stand the history teacher the first few days, but after getting to know him well, you'll love him."
I laughed. I don't usually have problems with teachers. If I don't like one, I try to get along with them as best as I can.
"Is this it?" I asked.
He nodded.
It's not that big; the entrance is very similar to the one I went to in Uruguay.
Many people were talking, others were checking their schedules, and the rest were looking at us. Or rather, they were looking at me.
