Harry woke up that morning as he heard a soft tapping on the window glass. Sitting up, he took his glasses from the bedside table and saw outside; it was a bright day with a clear sky and a barny owl was knocking on the glass, waiting to deliver the letter to him, or maybe Ron.
He stood up and opened the window, the owl promptly came in and stretched its leg so Harry could untie the letter. As he did so, the owl flew out of the window. Harry watched it soar out of sight for a bit before turning his attention back to the letter.
'Mr H.Potter,
Fifth floor, The Burrow,
St. Ottery Catchpole, Britain.'
Was written on the letter in bright green ink.
He turned it over in his hand as he came to sit on his bed, he could hear Ron mutter something that oddly resembled 'I love y-you, Hermione.' on the bed next to him. He still didn't understand why hadn't they got together after the war. Anyways, he opened the letter.
Dear Harry,
Sorry to disturb you early in the morning.
Hogwarts is starting again and you, along with Mr. Ronald Wesley and Ms. Hermione Granger have to attend your 8th and last year at Hogwarts. I am very well aware that a few days ago you and Mr Weasley got a very tempting offer to work at the Auror apartment without your N.E.W.T.S. but due to a new law introduced by the ministry this morning, you have to come.
Looking forwards to meet you at the start of the term.
Sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall.
Harry stared at the letter, it was the first time he had got an informal letter from his former Transfiguration teacher.
New law? Harry thought as he debated for a moment whether to wake Ron or not and then deciding that it was best to let him sleep, went down.
Harry avoided the stairs that creaked the loudest as he didn't want to wake up the others and quietly went into the kitchen.
There on the table, sat Ginny, alone, lost in her thoughts.
Harry couldn't get over the fact of how beautiful she looked even this early in the morning.
"Hey there!" Harry said sitting opposite to her at the table so they could face each other, it was two weeks past the war and they hadn't talked more than pleasant greetings as they were both busy with all the funerals they needed to attend.
"Wha- Oh Harry, it's you, Hi," Ginny said startled.
"How are you?" He asked.
She stared at him for a moment, "What do you mean?"
"The war and losing Fred, you must be disturbed."
She hugged herself, "I don't understand how you know me so well." She chuckled.
He chuckled too as silence fell between them.
"I am sorry," Harry said after a while.
She looked at him, "Why?"
"For hurting you - in a way. I am such a - terrible person!" He too was surprised that his voice was cracking.
Ginny looked at him, alarmed, "You aren't a terrible person!" She said immediately.
"I am." He said, "I hurt you - I hurt myself - I hurt both of us by b-breaking up -" And somehow, he found himself on the brim of tears, which was strange.
