It felt like she was dying.

Her body felt so exhausted. She couldn't move. Couldn't think straight. She felt so helpless.

The world was dark. She couldn't hear a single sound. Just her heavy breathing.

Calling for her shadows had cost her too much energy. She knew there was a possibility of dying while doing so, but she had been so eager to kill Arwyn's son. To get revenge.

She had felt like there was a small chance she could survive using up so much power at once. All that while her entire body was bleeding and trembling in pain.

She had given everything for a small chance at a life with Azriel. With her beautiful and lovely mate. He cared for her in a way no one ever had. He truly loved her. Even though they had their flaws and disagreements, he really, really loved her.

Valery wanted to sob and cry at the thought of her never getting to experience this loving life with him. But she couldn't sob, or cry. Her entire world was still black.

She could sometimes hear voices in the distance. She guessed they belonged to Azriel and Rhys. But other than that, she couldn't feel or see anything.

Just darkness, like her world had always been.
