I woke up in a familiar room, but it wasn't mine. What happened last night? And why was my head pounding? Damn.
Gently massaging my temple, I scanned the room. It felt oddly familiar. Had I been here before? Glancing at the bedside table, I spotted hangover pills and water, so I grabbed them. Maybe this was Faye's room. I hadn't been here in ages.
"So, you're awake?" a familiar voice interrupted my thoughts.
Becky stood leaning against the doorway, arms crossed. I furrowed my brows, taking in the surroundings again. It clicked. This was Becky's room.
"Why am I here?" I asked.
"You should change the number on your speed dial," she said, rolling her eyes as she reached for the water. "Faye called me to fetch you from the bar. You passed out, so she helped me bring you here. She couldn't take you home because you were wasted, and your brothers would've killed her."
"How did you know you're on my speed dial?" I inquired.
Yeah, she was. When Becky and I were still living together, I kept calling her to check up on her. I didn't realize that I hadn't changed it until now.
"Faye told me. She thought Billy was on your speed dial since you two were like twins, always together," Becky explained, rolling her eyes again as she sat on the edge of the bed. "Are you okay?" She attempted to check my temperature, but I leaned back.
"I should go home," I announced, but my head ached again.
"Stay until lunch, Freen. Don't worry. I won't chase you anymore," Becky said, causing me to turn to her. "I realized what you said, and you were right. I don't need to beg for your attention. Someone will give it to me willingly."
I smiled and nodded, genuinely happy for her. Finally, she would get the love she deserved.
"But I was wondering, Freen. Why did you say it last night?" Becky asked again.
"Say what?" I furrowed my brows, struggling to recall the events after the body shot. All I remembered was blacking out.
---
"I'm sorry, Becky. I just thought Billy was on her speed dial. Are you sure it's okay with you to take her home?" Faye asked Becky as they carried Freen.
"Yeah. Besides, her brothers would definitely scold her if they saw her like this," Becky answered, and they gently placed Freen in the car.
Faye sighed, massaging her temple. It was her fault. She shouldn't have taken Freen to something like this. Next time, she vowed, she would never allow it.
Becky excused herself since it was already evening and she needed to study. Once home, her maids helped her carry Freen to her room. Becky wiped off her light makeup, unable to resist her beauty. Though she kept telling herself to stop, she couldn't.
"Do I really have to go, Freen?" Becky asked, caressing Freen's hair.
""If you need me... then I'll stay. But if you only want me... I won't. I serve a purpose, Becky," she murmured, making Becky smile sadly.
"I wish you said this earlier, Freen," Becky whispered, biting her lower lip. "I've already decided. I'm leaving. I'm sorry."
---
I tried to recall everything, but it was a blur. I left the room, unable to remember what I couldn't. Becky followed me, pulling my hand and leading me to the dining area, where breakfast awaited.
Becky served me food, motioning for me to eat. It was unusual. She had never done this before. Was she trying to flirt with me and make me fall harder for her?
"I'm sorry for last night," I murmured.
"It's fine. You didn't do anything stupid," she said, gesturing for me to start eating, which I did.
After breakfast, I remembered I needed to talk to Becky about the Basketball Event. She was deeply engrossed in reading, so I decided to ask her.
"Bec, have you considered playing basketball?" I asked, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"I did play before, why?" she asked, closing her book to look at me.
"The committee wants you to play at their basketball event. You know, ever since you got popular playing football, most students only watch the football games. So, they're asking if you can play just one basketball game."
"And what's the benefit for me?" she asked, tilting her head.
If I were still her girlfriend, she would definitely agree without questioning me this much. Damn that committee.
"I'll ask them about the reward. Can I talk to you about this tomorrow?" I asked.
"I have a game tomorrow. I'm afraid I can't make time for you," she said, returning to her books.
"Then what about the next day?" I asked.
"Sounds fine. I'll see you when I see you."
I stood up and left her room, even though there was nobody to fetch me. However, when I reached the front yard, I saw Faye waiting for me.
Feeling embarrassed, I recalled kissing her last night due to my stupidity. I hadn't called her. Did Bright call her?
"Your brother told me to fetch you here. Bright called Mew, and Mew called me. Are you okay now?" Faye asked, eyeing my face. "You looked ugly."
I rolled my eyes. "My face is still puffy, but I'll be okay soon." I opened the car door, glancing at Becky's window, but she wasn't there. I hadn't bid a proper farewell and couldn't thank her enough. Perhaps it would be fine.
As I got inside the car, I turned to Faye, who was busy starting the engine.
"I'm sorry about last night," I muttered. "I was drunk. I don't know what I was doing."
"It's fine, Freen. Let's pretend it didn't happen," she said, smiling at me, and I nodded.
"Anyways, why did you ask Becky to fetch me if you intended to call Billy? You could've just ended the call and called Billy instead after she answered," I asked.
"Becky was worried about you. Besides, she's your girlfriend. It would be unfair for her to call your best friend when she's right there," Faye explained.
"What do you mean she's right there?" I asked.
"She's at the bar, too."
My body froze. She saw all of that. How much pain had I caused Becky? Was I too cruel to her? How much pain, Freen?
I looked out the window, swallowing the lump in my throat. I didn't deserve Becky. But I wanted to make it up to her. I wanted to do something for her so she wouldn't feel the pain anymore.
