I wanted to understand her, but I couldn't find any reason. She was giving me mixed signals, signals I couldn't fathom at all. What did she want me to do? Forgive her again after being left at that party? And now she was ignoring me as if I were the one who made the mistake.

"Why are you spacing out?" Irin asked when she saw me at the cafeteria looking out the window.

I had been waiting for almost half an hour now, yet I couldn't eat because of thoughts of Freen. She was consuming my mind. I was overthinking because of her.

"You're part of the sub-organization, right?" I randomly asked Irin, causing her to furrow her brows while eating fries. She was sitting across from me, so I could clearly see her expression.

"Why?" she asked. "You're not planning to join, are you?"

"Why do you think student leaders leave their position if they wanted it in the first place? Especially when she has everything. The students are afraid of her, she has the most active members. What's her problem?" I asked Irin and sighed.

"So this is about Freen?" She rested her chin on her hand. "She's dropping out, Becky. That's why she needs to resign from her position."

"What?" I almost shouted, causing the students to look at me. "No, she won't. She's in her third year. She fought hard already. Did she think college life is just easy to give up just like that?" I asked and huffed.

"Why don't you talk to her, Bec? I can't answer you right now because I don't know anything." Irin started eating again. "If you want clarification and answers to your questions, only Freen can provide them. If you don't want to be involved with her again, then stop thinking about her. You're backpedaling right now."

"I am not." I crossed my arms, and she chuckled.

"Eat up. Your food is cold."

For the next few weeks, I didn't see Freen at all. No messages, no calls. It was as if she had vanished from everyone's existence. I tried to talk to Billy, but he was always busy because of the work in the student council. Nam was also busy, and I was too shy to approach her. Faye didn't open her café anymore. It was as if she was with Freen the whole time.

Part of me wanted to visit her and ask how she was. If her reasons were too personal, it would be okay. I'd still give her a chance. I didn't like this situation. There was no closure at all.

"Bright is here. Didn't you see him?" Irin asked as she sat beside me on the bench.

I had been busy watching our team practice for the last game. It was an important game because many scouts from different countries would come to find someone who would be eligible for the pros.

"Is she with Freen?" I asked.

Irin shook her head and leaned back. "Why don't you visit her, Becky? I talked to Billy last time and asked him what happened. He said that Freen was facing difficult problems. I didn't know exactly what happened, but I guess she needs you right now." Irin's face turned serious. She hadn't totally liked Freen before, but right now, it was as if she were begging me to do something.

"She's the one who left me hanging, Irin. Do you think I will swallow my pride just for her?" I asked. "I need answers, but I want her to tell me firsthand."

"You're being stubborn," Irin faked a smile. "I'm not invalidating your feelings. But this is a different story, Becky. It's not just about you and her anymore. There are other people involved. You forgave her once or twice. I'm not saying you should go back to her. I'm saying, just be there for her."

For sure, Irin knew something she didn't want to tell me. I looked away as I tried to compose myself. I could swallow my pride for a moment. Just to make sure she was safe. Just to make sure she was okay.

"Becky," Bright called my name. I looked at his tired and puffy eyes as if he had been crying all night. "I won't play in the last tournament. I'm just here to wish you well."

"What happened?" I stood up when he turned his back.

"There's no reason to keep going. The only person who could motivate me to play is gone." He forced a smile and walked away.

Irin was right. If Bright, who was known to be strong at hiding his feelings, was like this, then this must be a serious scenario.

"Can I go home with you?" I shouted at Bright, causing him to stop and look at me.

"Freen won't be happy if you see her in that state." Bright looked at the ground and bit his lips. "It's up to you, Bec. But I can't take you with me." Then he turned again and walked away.

Irin came up to me and wrapped her arms around my shoulder. "Don't ask anymore, Bec. Visit her. This is the only way to find peace of mind."
