I woke up the next morning, and after a few seconds of clarity, the information that I learned the night before came flooding back to me.
Tristan has a new girlfriend.
I brushed my teeth, and after I did so, I walked down the hall to Tyler's bedroom. Even though he had been with Erika the night before, I knew he had to be home now. Tyler is an engineer, and he works from home on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Today was a Friday, so I knew that he would be in his bedroom working.
Tyler's door was shut, and I could hear him typing furiously from the hallway. I knocked on his door, to see if it was safe for me to come in.
"Come in, Cam," he said.
I opened Tyler's bedroom door. He was sitting at his desk that was by the window, his whole work set up in front of him. Two large monitors, a laptop, and a large keyboard.
"Give me a second," he said, still typing, "I just have to send out this email."
"No problem," I said, sitting down on his bed.
After about 15 seconds, Tyler turned around in his chair and said, "Good morning."
I looked at my twin brother and said, "It's not really a good one."
"Why, what's going on?" Tyler asked me, his expression turning concerned.
"Tristan has a girlfriend," I said to him.
Tyler's green eyes widened and he asked, "Seriously? How do you know?"
"My co-worker, Leah, saw it. He posted a story, a selfie with his new girlfriend. All I know is that her name is Katie."
Tyler sighed and said, "I'm sorry, Cam. It seems a bit soon that he would just go off and date someone else after everything that happened...but some guys are dicks. Tristan being one of them. I know you still don't really want to see that, but..."
"I'm starting to realize that more and more, believe me."
"I know it's a really tough pill to swallow," Tyler said, "At least you don't work with him anymore. The sting of this will lessen more and more over time, believe me."
"You're right. It would be hell if he still worked at the restaurant with me."
"I'm glad he doesn't. It's going to be alright, Cam. I know it hurts a lot now, and I'm here for you. You're going to find someone great, one day. Whenever you're ready."
I gave Tyler a genuine smile and said, "Thank you. You always know what to say."
"That's what I'm here for, sis," Tyler said, "Good thing you went to me with this and not Timmy."
"All he would have done is ask if Tristan's new girlfriend was hot," I chuckled.
"He's so...not helpful," Tyler laughed. He then asked me, "Are you doing anything later? You should hang out with Erika and I. We were going to get drinks together. Come with."
"I don't have plans," I said, "Thank you for giving me them."
"Cool," Tyler nodded, "It'll be fun."
I tried to keep myself busy all day. It can be a bit tough on the days when I don't work to not just sit around and scroll on my phone, especially considering most of the people that I know my age have full-time day jobs, but I decided to go to the gym, and then get some coffee afterward. That took up a couple of hours of my time.
It was around 6 PM, and I was in my room about to get ready for the night, when I heard my phone vibrate.
In looked down at my phone to see who was calling.
