"What do you think of the flower arrangement, anything I should add to it?"

I walked over to the dining room table, where Katie stood looking at the colorful bouquet she had just put together.

"It looks amazing," I said to her, "I know everyone else will think so as well."

"Perfect. Let's set out the food now."

Tonight was Katie and I's housewarming party.

Yes, we had just moved in together, into our own apartment.

Katie has been living on her own for the past 10 months, which has been great for her. But we had been together for close to two years now, and we decided it was time for us to move in together.

I knew that I was more than ready, and Katie was too, considering she was the one that first suggested that we moved in together.

We immediately started looking for apartments. Katie had been living in a very small one bedroom apartment, and we wanted more space than that. We were able to find a two bedroom apartment with much more space, and it was in our budget as well.

I had less than a year left of school and was still working at The Smokehouse, now three nights a week, to make extra money while finishing school.

Katie was not working at the restaurant anymore. She was working one night a week as a bartender at a different restaurant just to pull in extra money, but otherwise, she was really taking off with her makeup business. She had bookings pretty much every single week, mostly for weddings, and she absolutely loved it, and it was how she made most of her income. She also now had close to 10,000 followers on her makeup instagram as well.

To say I was proud would be an understatement.

We were having a small dinner party just for our family and closest friends tonight.

However, I had another plan in mind as well. Something that I had been planning for a few months now.

I was going to propose to Katie.

It felt right. We had broached the topic as well quite a few times, and I knew that it was something Katie would want as well.

Last week when I told Katie that I was hanging out with Devin, I was actually going to a jeweler to get the perfect ring for Katie. Kim and my dad went with me, and I picked out something that I thought Katie would love.

I knew that she didn't want a traditional diamond, so I picked out a beautiful aquamarine ring adorned with some tiny diamonds around the stone that I just knew she would love wearing.

At least, I hoped.

I had the ring hidden in our bedroom, in the dresser that was on my side of the bed. I was going to make up an excuse during the party to go get it.

The only ones that I knew I was doing this were my dad and Kim, of course, and Devin. I had told him that I was really considering proposing, and he really encouraged me to do it.

"You love her, right?" he asked me.

"Of course," I said back.

"And you know she's the one?"

"I do."

"So why not?"

He was right.

Why not?

Coming tonight to the housewarming party were my dad and Kim, Timmy and his girlfriend who he had been with for 9 months now, Amelia, Tyler and Erika, who were now married, and my niece, Chloe, Brandon and Ivy, Ivy's mom Lisa, Katie's brother Kyle, and Devin and Callum, who were now engaged.
