I tend to have a hard time adapting to life changes.
Anytime I've graduated from school, changed a job, or even gone through a breakup, I always find that it takes me some time to get used to.
That's what I was dealing with now, starting my MSW program.
I had been so used to working at the restaurant and then having the rest of my time be my own. I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted to do.
I knew that couldn't last forever, but adding school to the mix was a big change for me.
I was enjoying what I was learning, and I knew that it was the right program for me. It was tough though, adapting to now balancing school with my everyday life.
Katie was a big help. She was extremely encouraging, no matter what, she was a constant in my life that I knew wasn't changing.
Two weeks after my classes began, at the beginning of February, Katie wanted to continue shopping for makeup for her professional makeup kit. She had already started with the gift card I got her, but she wanted to use some of her own money and go to Sephora to get other products. I wasn't working, and I wanted to take a pause on homework, so I decided to go with her.
"My god, all of this is so fucking expensive," she mumbled as we walked through the store, looking for the perfect products for her makeup collection.
"I had no idea that foundation could be...$70," I said, picking up an Armani foundation.
"It's ridiculous, isn't it?" Katie shook her head, "I need quite a few different shades to match any skin tone. Hopefully, I can make some money back from this."
"Kim is going to spread the word to her friends that you can do makeup for prom," I said to Katie, "She has friends who have daughters in high school. I definitely think you'll make the money back."
Katie shot me a grateful look and a smile, "That's amazing, thank you. I'd love to be able to do this full-time...or even just part-time one day. I feel like I could be closer to getting there, but I don't want to get my hopes up."
"It's okay to be hopeful, Katie," I put my hand on her shoulder, "I sure am for you."
I then looked down at the section of the store we were in, which was for the makeup brand NARS. I picked up a blush that caught my eye and looked at the back of it, "This one is really pretty."
"It is," Katie said, "Maybe I'll get it."
I then laughed as I said, "The name of this shade is called 'orgasm'."
Katie then said into my ear, "You look awfully cute today. That's what I plan on making you do once we get out of here."
I immediately felt my face heat up, and I handed the blush to Katie, "I think you should get this one."
Katie laughed as she took the blush and said, "Will do."
When we left Sephora and were in Katie's car, my phone started vibrating and I saw that Brandon was calling me.
I answered, "What's up, Bran?"
"Hey. Are you with Katie?" he asked me.
"Yeah, why?"
"Put me on speaker, I want to know what she thinks about something."
"Okay," I said, putting my phone on speaker, "You're on speaker."
Brandon's voice came through, "Katie, I have a question for you."
"What's up, Brandon?" Katie asked.
