Part 16

A few days later, Kim asked me if I wanted to go to the nail salon to get a manicure and pedicure with her before my shift that night.

Kim gets her nails done every other week, I don't usually join her.

I try my best to save my money. I am grateful that I don't have rent to pay, but I do pay for my phone, car insurance, and student loans.

I decided to join Kim that day.

"My nail girl, Lynn, moved to a new place," Kim said to me, "I figured maybe you'd want to check it out with me."

"Sure," I said, "I could go for a mani-pedi."

Kim drove us in her Range Rover over to the salon, which was a town over.

"Oh wow, this is nice," Kim said as we walked in, "Nicer than the other place she worked at."

The nail salon was luxurious. There were touches of gold and pink all throughout the building and a front desk that looked like it was made of granite. It also smelled lovely, like sandalwood and vanilla.

I picked out a baby blue color for my finger and toenails. First was the manicure, and Kim and I were able to be seated at stations right next to each other.

"This is really nice," I said to her as my nails were being filed, "Thanks for asking me to tag along."

"I figured you could do with some relaxation," Kim smiled at me.

The door to the salon then opened, and I saw two women walk in.

Right when I noticed who it was, my heart immediately skipped a beat. It was Katie and Ivy.

They both wore tank tops and short shorts, and Ivy had on less makeup than I had ever seen her wear. It also looked like Katie wasn't wearing makeup.

She still looks amazing.

Right away, Katie met my gaze. Her blue eyes widened, and she waved. When Ivy noticed, she waved as well.

"You know them?" Kim asked me softly.

"Yes. That's Katie...Tristan's girlfriend. Plus her best friend, Ivy," I said back, equally as quiet.

"Which one is Katie?" Kim asked me.

"The blonde."

"Are you okay to still be here?"

"Yes, I'm fine," I said back.

I watched as Katie and Ivy chose their colors, and then were led back to the stations to get their nails done.

They stopped in front of me on the way.

"Cameron, it's great to see you," Katie smiled at me. She then looked down at my nails and said, "Great color."

"Thanks," I looked up at her, "What did you choose?"

"Pink. That's always my go to," Katie said, showing me the color.

"How about you?" I asked Ivy.

"Mint green this time," she said, "Hopefully I'll like it."

I had noticed before that Ivy had very long acrylic nails. Katie's nails were always painted but kept short.

I then said to Katie and Ivy, "This is my stepmom, Kim. I came with her today, she always gets her nails done."

"Nice to meet you girls," Kim said, giving them a friendly smile.

The nail technicians beckoned Katie and Ivy over to their stations, and Katie asked me, "Do you work tonight?"
