I hated that I tried to look extra pretty for work the next day.

I didn't like that subconsciously I wanted to try and show Katie that I looked good. But I couldn't help myself.

I wound up putting on more makeup than usual and made sure that my golden blonde hair was pulled back into a sleek ponytail. I put on some extra mascara around my dark green eyes and made sure all of my jewelry was in place. My earrings, nose stud, and bracelets. I had even put on a self-tanner that morning to try and have a natural glow.

I knew that the one area where I wasn't going to feel confident in was the one I never had confidence in.

My body.

Especially after everything that happened in the past 6 months or so, my body confidence was at an all-time low. No matter how thin I can get, it always feels like it is never enough. I was in that place right now, after the past months and all of the mental and physical issues I had gone through.

No matter how much I tried to doll myself up, I was never going to feel prepared enough to see Katie.

I just had to get in my car and go to work. I was really glad that Devin was going to be working with me tonight. He would be a safe place for me. I am friends with some of my other co-workers, but not as close as I was with Devin.

Fuck. They're all going to know who Katie is. If they don't know now, they will somehow.

All of my co-workers knew that Tristan and I were done. They didn't know the intricacies of what happened, and they didn't need to know.

But they were all going to know that Katie was his new girlfriend.

I was out, she was in.

I parked in the lot at work and gave myself a little pep talk before heading in.

You can do this, Cameron. You'll introduce yourself to her and be polite. And then you'll take it from there.

When I walked inside, Devin was already up by the host stand, waiting for me.

"Hey," he said, walking up to me. He then lowered his voice and said, "She's here already. Back in the kitchen with Kylie and some of the others."

"Well, I have to go put my bag in my locker...so I'm sure I'll see her."

"I'll walk with you," Devin said to me.

My heart was thumping as we walked to the kitchen in the back. Off the side of the kitchen is a locker room, where everyone puts their belongings while they work.

Devin and I walked into the kitchen, where some of our other co-workers were standing.

"Hey, Cameron!" Deshawn said, and a few of my other co-workers said "hello" to me as well.

That's when a pair of blue eyes met my gaze.

It's her.

Katie.

I was a bit taken aback, seeing her in person.

She's pretty. I can't even deny that. Seeing her in person confirms that for me.

She spoke first.

"Hey," she said, "I'm Katie. It's nice to meet you."

"Cameron," I said back, our eyes locked, "Nice to meet you as well."

I then turned and started walking to the locker room with Devin.

"First introduction, over with," he whispered to me as we walked closely next to each other.
