On my days off from work, I used to spend time with Tristan. Even if he was working, I would essentially wait all day or all night until his shift was over to go spend time with him.

Sometimes I would even go to his house and hang out with his mom if he wasn't home.

Those days were now over, and my days off looked different.

I spent a lot of my days off trying to distract my mind. I would read a lot, go to the gym, and I was shopping more than ever now, as it gave me joy for a few moments when I got something I liked.

Admittedly, my days off would get lonely. If Devin was off work as well we would sometimes hangout, but he worked so much, even more than me.

I found myself getting mad over and over again about Katie's friend glaring at me from the car.

Who the fuck is she to do that?

Maybe Katie was talking badly about me, and isn't actually as nice as I thought she was.

Fuck her.

I officially decided that I did not like her. As I should have felt from the beginning.

I always look forward to my day or days off, but as quickly as they come, they end, and I am back at work.

Devin wasn't working with me that Wednesday, but he asked me if I wanted to grab drinks with him after my shift, and I told him that I would.

I wondered if Katie was going to be working, and when I walked in, I got my answer.

She was already standing at the host stand with Kylie, her trainer.

"Hey, Cameron!" Kylie said as I approached the host stand.

"Hi, Kylie," I said, and I then turned to Katie. I knew I had to acknowledge her.

"Hey," I said to her, my tone less friendly than when I greeted Kylie.

"Hi, Cameron," she said, and gave me a small smile.

"This is going to be Katie's last training shift," Kylie said to me, "She's doing great."

"Nice," I said back, taking a look at the seating chart for the night. I then looked back up and said, "I'm going to put my purse in my locker. I'll see you both soon."

I could feel Katie's eyes on me as I walked away.

I tried to focus on my tables during my shift, but it was very difficult, especially with Katie and Kylie in the section next to me.

I could hear Katie joking around with the customers, and she genuinely sounded friendly and like she was invested in her conversations with them.

I'll bet Tristan loves how outgoing she is.

My shift ran a bit later that night, as one of my tables was taking their grand old time leaving. I stayed back in the kitchen to help clean and occasionally would check and see if they were still there.

As I was back in the kitchen, I texted Devin saying I would meet him at the bar at around 10:30. As I was looking down at my phone to send the text, I could sense someone walking up to me.

I looked up to see Katie coming toward me.

"Hey," she said, sidling up next to me, "How's your shift going?"

"My last table won't get the fuck out of here," I said, "But otherwise good. How is your last training shift?"

"I saw. Hopefully, they get out of here soon. And it's good, but it can get exhausting putting on a smile all night to customers, you know?"
