I reluctantly reached the driver's side of Tristan's truck, and he looked at me through the open window.
We stared at each other for a moment, until he said, "Really, Cameron? You and Katie?"
"Tristan, it's really none of your business," I said back to him.
"I don't know, I think it kind of is," Tristan said, "Just tell me one thing. I know you'll be honest with me. Did you and Katie hook up while she and I were dating?"
"No," I responded, "We didn't."
Tristan shook his head, "I knew yours and Katie's friendship was fucking weird. How she would talk about you...and when Ivy told me you and her shared at bed...it was just so weird considering the circumstances."
I didnt know what to say back, so I didn't say anything.
Tristan looked at me and shook his head once again, "Well, Cameron. All I have to say is good luck with that slut."
...What?
I looked at Tristan, "Excuse me?"
"You heard me. Katie is a slut. Good luck with her."
I narrowed my eyes at Tristan, "She was just your girlfriend. How could you say something like that about her?"
"Because it's true. You've seen her, obviously. She dresses like a slut and acts like one, too."
I could feel my blood starting to boil as I said, "Tristan, might I remind you that you are the one who cheated on Katie?"
"Yeah, and now I don't regret it," he said, "I came to her house the night you were there to apologize for how everything went down. Now I don't regret it for a second."
I stared at my ex-boyfriend in disbelief. The person who I had spent 14 months of my life with. The person who I almost started a family with.
"You were never this awful when we were dating," I said to Tristan.
Unless you were and I was always blind to it.
"Things change, Cameron," Tristan looked at me, "All I have to say is good luck."
I glowered at Tristan for another moment, and then said, "I have to go to work. Bye, Tristan."
"Bye," he said to me, and I turned away and started walking to the entrance of The Smokehouse, still heated from the conversation.
I texted Katie right before my shift began that Tristan had shown up at the restaurant. She told me to tell her everything when I came over to her house.
I don't know if I should tell her what Tristan said about her.
I couldn't help but to still remain angry throughout my whole shift. Brandon, who was bussing tables tonight, said to me, "You good? You've looked unhappy all night. Granted it's easy to be unhappy here at work. But you don't look like yourself."
"Tristan showed up here," I said, "He was just...terrible."
"He always has been," Brandon said, "You were just too in love with him to see it. He's always been a cocky douchebag."
I couldn't help but to chuckle, "Maybe you're right, Brandon."
All I wanted to do was be with Katie, and I clocked out right away when my shift ended and after I counted my tips.
The whole way to her house, the conversation with Tristan replayed over and over again in my head.
When I got to Katie's house, I parked to the side of it, as there were two cars in front of her house, one of them was hers, and I figured the other was either her mom or brothers.
