Ivy was able to be released from the hospital at the beginning of March, even though she still hadn't regained movement in her legs.

She still had no sensation whatsoever, and I knew that she was feeling so grateful just to be alive, but she was not in the highest of spirits with not being able to get around on her own, and having to be in a wheelchair, at least for the time being. She was going to be in physical therapy 5 days a week once she was released to hopefully help regain back strength.

Ivy's mom hired builders to quickly make their how more wheelchair accessible, and she set up one of the guest rooms they had on the first floor to be Ivy's new bedroom.

Katie was there when Ivy was released from the hospital, and so was Brandon. Brandon could only help so much with wheeling Ivy around with his broken arm, but he wanted to be there every step of the way for Ivy.

Back when I first met Brandon and before I really got to know him, I thought that he didn't really give a fuck about anyone or anything.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

For a 22-year-old guy, he was really stepping up to the plate for his girlfriend, whom he hadn't even been dating for that long.

Ivy was released from the hospital on a Friday, and I worked that night, but if I got cut early from work I was going to drive to her house to see her. Katie and Brandon were already there with her.

I was in the back cleaning the beverage station, texting Katie. I knew that I shouldn't have my phone blatantly out during my shift, but I wanted to stay updated on how Ivy was doing. Katie was texting me that Ivy was upset that hardly any of her other so-called "friends" had reached out to see what she was doing.

"Cameron, you've been on your phone an awful lot this shift. Is everything alright?"

I turned around to see Daniel behind me, and I immediately shoved my phone in my pocket.

"Sorry," I said, "I'll keep my phone away."

"Thank you, but I wanted to know if everything was alright," Daniel said to me, "You usually don't have your phone out much.

"Katie is keeping me updated on Ivy. She was discharged from the hospital today, I'm hoping to go see her after work tonight. Katie and Brandon are with her."

Daniel glanced down at his watch and said, "You can head out if you'd like. We've got it from here."

"Are you sure?" I asked him, "You're not like, punishing me for being on my phone?"

Daniel laughed, "No, Cameron. Some things are more important than work. This is one of them. Get out of here, go be with Ivy, Katie, and Brandon. You're all good."

I looked at Daniel, "Thank you. I really appreciate it."

I stopped back home after leaving work so I could change out of my work uniform before going to Ivy's. When I got there, my dad, Kim, Timmy, Tyler, and Erika were standing in the kitchen together, all talking.

"Cam!" Tyler said, "Come here, we've got some exciting news."

I walked over to where my family was standing around together, and said, "Hey, all. What's going on?"

I could see that Kim was dabbing at her eyes, but she had a smile on her face.

...what is happening?

Erika smiled and looked at me, "I'm pregnant."

"You're going to be an aunt!" Tyler said, also beaming.

For a split second, something tugged at my heartstrings. Anytime I hear that someone is pregnant, it always does.

But I put that aside. This was not about me, this was about my brother and Erika, and my future niece or nephew. And I was going to be happy for them.
