As the next week passed by, I thought more about Katie.

That seemed to be a reoccurring theme.

First and foremost, I felt bad that she had a so-called "best friend" who would spill about her relationship behind her back. Even though Katie told me about some of what happened between her and Tristan, it wasn't Ivy's business to tell me.

I could tell that the trip with Tristan to OCMD had made her mentally exhausted. One would think that it would make me happy that her and Tristan's relationship wasn't good, but I felt bad that she was upset.

I think I'm just growing to really care about her and I don't know what to do about it.

During the week when I didn't have work, I applied to a couple of MSW programs. I finally was feeling ready to do so, even if I couldn't start until January.

I told Devin at work that next Thursday I had applied to three programs.

"You'll get into all of them, I know it," he said to me, "I should really think about what I want to do with my life as well. I'm not working here forever."

Devin has a degree in Accounting, he was pressured by his parents to do so. He does not want to be an accountant whatsoever.

At that moment, Brandon came up to us.

"Hey friends," he said, "Come to my house tomorrow night. We only have so many days left of summer, might as well spend it in my pool. We also just got a new jacuzzi installed."

Devin and I looked at each other, and we nodded.

"Can I bring Callum?" Devin asked.

"You don't have to ask me that. The answer will always be 'yes'," Brandon said.

As he walked away, Devin chuckled and shook his head, "I would have never expected to become such good friends with the dude when I first met him."

"I thought he was such a prick the first couple of shifts I worked with him," I said, "I was mostly wrong."

Devin laughed, "Mostly is correct."

The next day it rained on and off, and when I was about to leave for Brandon's, my Dad, who was in the living room, said to me, "Hey, Cam. There's supposed to be a major storm later on, so please be careful."

"I will be," I said, "I won't drive while it's storming. Thanks, Dad."

I knew that Brandon's pool wouldn't be open for much longer, but tonight, I really didn't want to swim. I wanted to be comfortable. So comfortable that I wore a light pink hoodie and a pair of frayed jean shorts. It was a cool August night, so I could get away with a hoodie.

Pretty much everyone from work, as well as some of Brandon's other friends were there. Right away, I spotted Katie and Ivy in the pool.

I waved to them, and they both smiled and waved back.

Ivy, however, had left a bad taste in my mouth.

As the night went on, I spent time mostly with Callum and Devin. It rained on and off, and by 11 PM, there was thunder and lightning.

Everyone started getting out of the pool, and Brandon said, "If any of you want to stay, you're more than welcome to chill inside with me."

"Callum and I will stay," Devin said, "We can wait to leave until the rain dies down."

"Same here," I said, "What's another hour?"

Most of Brandon's friends from outside of work left, and so did Deshawn and a few of my other co-workers.
