Ringing in the new year with Katie by my side was more than I could have ever asked for.

The previous new year I had spent alone, basically. It wasn't long before Tristan and I had broken up, and I could feel him pulling away. Tristan wanted to go out with his friends, and I didn't want to stop him, so he went out to the bar, and I stayed home, alone. My dad and Kim tried to get me to go to dinner with them, and Erika and Tyler tried to get me to go to a party, but I didn't want to leave my room.

Timmy, however, was sick last New years. He had come down with strep throat and was unable to go out. He was also in his room, in a lot of pain, but right before Midnight, he made me go down to the living room with him to watch the ball drop. He wouldn't let me stay in my room.

I'll never forget the hug he gave me when the ball dropped at midnight. Timmy and I hardly ever hugged, but the hug he gave me last New years felt like he was trying to tell me everything would be okay.

And he was right.

Brandon had a New years bash at his house, in his basement. Thankfully, Tristan did not show up this time.

Katie was my New Year's kiss, of course. Callum was Devin's, and Ivy was Brandon's. It was nice seeing my friends happy as well.

I couldn't help but notice that Ivy seemed different since she started hanging out with Brandon. She seemed calmer, and honestly sweeter.

She came up to me at one point when Katie wasn't around me and was with some of our other co-workers, and she said, "I love your dress, Cameron. Really pretty."

"Thanks, Ivy," I said, "You look really nice as well."

I meant it. She wore a sparkly silver dress, and her black hair was in a sleek ponytail.

"Thank you," she smiled at me, "Katie told me that you got her a gift card for Christmas for her to buy a lot of professional makeup. I'm so happy you did, I've been trying to get her to go back into doing makeup for years now."

"I think she just needs some encouragement," I said, "That's what we're both there for."

Ivy nodded and said to me, "You're my favorite person that Katie has ever dated. You're just so good to her. It's what she has always deserved, but never had."

I couldn't help but smile, "I just want to make her happy. That's what matters most to me. You seem to be making Brandon pretty happy."

Ivy visibly blushed, and she said, "He's great. I know we didn't start off on the best foot, but he's the best."

I noticed Ivy glance over at Brandon, who was nearby and smile.

Katie then came bounding over. She looked beautiful in a gold shimmery dress. We had both opted for gold dresses tonight.

"What are you two chatting about?" she smiled and Ivy and I.

"You," Ivy looked at Katie, "I was saying to Cameron how glad I am that she got you a gift card to buy the professional makeup. You need to get back into it."

"It was amazing," Katie grinned at me, "I told you, Ivy, I'm going to see what I can do for prom makeup come the spring."

I knew that I was going to try and encourage Katie to stick to that.

We all crowded around the TV when it was about to be midnight. Brandon handed out champagne flutes, and right before the ball dropped, Katie turned to me and said, "May this be our best year yet."

"With you in it, I know it will be," I responded.

A second later the ball dropped, and Katie pulled me in for a kiss. I was completely lost in her, and for a few moments there, I forgot there was anyone else in the room.
