There was no reason for me to be as upset as I was about Katie and Tristan going to Ocean City.
But I couldn't help it, for multiple reasons.
It reminded me of the summer prior, when Tristan and I spent 5 days down in Ocean City Maryland. We honestly had a really great time. We stayed up until 1 AM walking the boardwalk and around the beach town each night, talking and laughing with each other, as we usually did.
Sometimes I can't help but miss that.
It made it feel less special in a way that Tristan and Katie were going there just a year later.
I knew it wasn't my business and I shouldn't care, but I couldn't help it.
There was also jealousy stirring up inside of me...and not about Tristan. However I really did not want to admit that to myself.
It was confusing to me, how Katie could tell me that she wanted to see what was under my bikini yet go on a vacation with Tristan.
What a mess.
For the rest of the week, I was bothered. I tried to not act like it, but I couldn't help it.
On Friday night, a day before Katie was going to be back at work, Brandon asked me if I wanted to come to his house after my shift and hang out. I agreed to, even though I felt a slight disappointment that Katie wouldn't be there.
Devin was closing that night, so he wouldn't be able to make it to Brandon's either.
I knew that I would still likely have a good time, however I would miss him. He was always a comfort for me to have in social situations.
I had decided not to swim either. I wasn't quite in the mood to step out of my comfort zone.
When I walked into Brandon's backyard, I was surprised to see Ivy there in the pool.
Brandon came up to me with a mango Whiteclaw and greeted me.
"Thanks," I said to him, taking the drink, "I'm surprised that Ivy is here without Katie."
Brandon shrugged, "I invited her."
I chuckled, "I didn't know you had her number."
Brandon rolled his eyes but smiled, "It was through Snapchat. She added me, don't get any ideas."
I sat down at the edge of the pool and put my feet in the water, listening to the conversations between my co-workers. I didn't add much, but I also wasn't feeling uncomfortable or awkward.
At one point, Ivy got out of the pool and grabbed a beer, and when she came back, she sat down next to me.
I noticed today that it looked like she only had fake lashes on, not her usual pound of makeup. Her green eyes looked brighter, and she looked younger and more refreshed.
"Hey Cameron," she grinned at me, "How are you?"
"I'm good," I said to her, "I was surprised to see you here without Katie. Not in a bad way."
"Brandon invited me, and I didn't have plans, so I thought, why not?"
"Well, it's good to see you."
"It's good to see you too," Ivy said to me and she then asked, "You know that Katie is in Ocean City, right?"
"Yeah. She told me at work earlier this week that she was going with Tristan."
"I was surprised they wound up going," Ivy said, glancing at me.
I looked at her, "Why were you surprised?"
