A few months prior, we had received an invitation in the mail for the wedding of one of Kim's best friends, Maya. She was getting re-married, and was throwing a huge wedding down at the Jersey Shore late May.

Maya invited my whole family, and told Kim that we could all bring plus one's as well.

Of course, I was going to bring Katie.

Katie was excited, as she told me that she had never been to a wedding before. Her dad and Nikki got married at the courthouse, and she had never gone to any other weddings.

Neither of us had dresses to wear to the wedding, so we went to the mall together to find dresses.

"They have to be really nice, right?" Katie asked me as we skimmed through the racks at Francesca's, "This wedding is pretty fancy."

I nodded, "It's black tie attire. Oooh, look at this dress, Katie. This would look stunning on you."

I lifted up a long, light pink v-neck dress with a beautiful floral print.

"I know floral isn't really your thing, but it would look so pretty on you," I added.

Katie looked at the dress, "That is really pretty. I'll try it on. Now, I found a dress that would look stunning on you."

Katie held up a long, silk emerald green dress with spaghetti straps.

"I love that," I nodded, "I'll try it on as well."

Katie and I both went to the dressing rooms, and we tried on our dresses.

After I slipped mine on and zippered it, I looked at myself in the mirror, smoothing the fabric over my stomach.

I stared back at my own reflection.

I feel pretty in this.

I don't feel my usual insecurities.

I stepped out of the dressing room to see that Katie was already out there waiting for me.

My jaw dropped when I saw her. The dress looked absolutely stunning on her. The color was beautiful against her tanned skin, and the dress hugged every curve in the right place.

"You look gorgeous," Katie said to me, and I said at the same time, "You look beautiful."

We both chuckled and smiled at each other.

"I guess we found our dresses," Katie said, "I can already envision what makeup looks will go stunning with these dresses."

"And I can already envision myself slipping you out of that dress after the wedding," I said in a hushed tone to Katie, who visibly blushed in response.

On the day of the wedding, Katie was going to do her makeup of course, as well as mine, Kim's, and Erika's. We all got ready in Kim and my dad's bedroom, so Katie would have the space to work on all of us.

Erika wore a stunning yellow dress that looked beautiful against her deep skin tone. Her hair was in long, tight braids and there was a bit of a baby bump peeking out from underneath her dress. Kim wore a long navy blue dress that looked beautiful as well against her olive skin.

I could tell that Katie was completely in her element as she did our makeup. Every single stroke of the brush I could tell was carefully thought out. She finished Erika's makeup first, and Erika beamed when she saw her reflection in the mirror.

"Wow," she said, turning to Katie, "This pregnancy has been tough, and I haven't felt my best. I actually feel like I look beautiful right now."

"That's because you do look beautiful," Katie said to her, "My makeup just enhanced what you already have."

Kim was also extremely happy with her makeup, and she kept on looking at herself in the mirror.

Katie finished my makeup up before moving on to hers, and when I looked in the mirror...I actually liked the reflection looking back at me.

We all drove separately, Katie and I, my dad and Kim, Tyler and Erika, and Timmy and the girl he was bringing along as his date. Katie drove us, and as we entered New Jersey, she said, "I'm sure as hell glad we're not in this state to go to my dad's."

Her dad had apologized for what happened on Thanksgiving, but Katie wasn't in the best place when it came to him. Or her mom, at the moment.

Thankfully, Katie had been looking at apartments for the past month and found one she really liked that wasn't far from where she lived now.

The wedding was on the beach, and in an absolutely beautiful venue that was behind the beach where the ceremony was going to take place. It was a really nice day out, it was warm with a slight breeze. I sat toward the back at an end seat, next to Katie.

As the bride walked out, in her white dress and veil, I couldn't help but think how amazing Katie would look in a wedding dress one day.

And I hoped that I would be lucky enough to be the one waiting for her at the altar.

The ceremony wasn't very long, but it was emotional. The bride spoke about how she never thought she would find someone again after heartbreak. As she spoke, Katie took my hand in hers and gave it a light squeeze.

There was a cocktail hour on the beach before the reception, and during it, Kim said to Katie and I, "Let me take a picture of the two of you. You look stunning together."

Katie and I stood next to each other, and she put her arm around my waist.

I looked up at Katie, and she looked down at me and said, "I love you, Cameron."

"I love you too, Katie," I said back to her, "So much."

Kim snapped a couple of pictures, and then she took a couple more of us smiling at the camera.

When it was time for the reception, Katie and I were seated at a table with Tyler and Erika, Timmy and his date, Savannah, and a couple of other young couples. We found ourselves next to a couple, Gabriel and Alana.

"I love both of your dresses," Alana said to Katie and I, "And your makeup, both of you! It looks amazing, did you do it yourself?"

"I did," Katie said, "I do makeup sometimes. Kind of trying to make a career out of it, but we'll see what happens."

"Well, you're beyond talented," Alana said to Katie, "Do you have an Instagram or anything? I'd love to follow you and support you."

Katie nodded and told Alana her Instagram handle, and I asked Alana, "How did you and Gabriel meet?"

"We met in college!" Alana said, "We've both graduated by now, but we met our freshman year, during orientation week, and we've been together ever since. We live together now here in South Jersey."

"That's so sweet that you got together during your freshman year of college and stayed together," Katie said to Alana and Gabriel.

"Thank you," Alana smiled at us. She then asked, "How did the two of you meet?"

Katie and I glanced at each other and smiled.

"It's kind of a funny story..." Katie started to say.

It was.

And I wouldn't change it for the world.

End.

A/N: If you've made it this far, thank you so, so much for reading. I had a lot of fun writing this story, and I really hope that you enjoyed it. There will be an epilogue posted this coming week, likely two parts. <3
