I had a feeling that at some point I was going to see Tristan at the restaurant, or at a hangout outside of work, and I had no idea how I was going to handle seeing him. Or seeing him and Katie together.

All it would do was remind me of the times that I shared with him. The fact that I used to be the one he loved and was affectionate with.

And I wasn't prepared for that.

For the next week at work, when I saw Katie, we would give each other a polite smile. I still didn't want to talk to her very much, though I could see how well she was doing flying solo. Part of me wanted to compliment her, but the other part of me still wanted nothing to do with her.

The next Friday, a week after Brandon's party, I was in the kitchen doing side work toward the end of my shift, and Katie walked in. I could immediately tell by the look on her face that she was frustrated.

Daniel, who was back in the kitchen, seemed to take notice as well.

"Everything okay?" he asked Katie.

"Not really," Katie said, "Table 52 is terrible, they're so fucking rude. They're complaining about everything."

"Let me go talk to them," Daniel said to Katie, "You just hang back here for a few minutes."

"Thanks," Katie said, "Good luck with them."

I was still looking over at Katie, and she caught my eye. She looked hesitant, but she walked over to me.

"Do you mind if I help you sort out the silverware for a few minutes?" she asked me, "It's okay if not."

"You're more than welcome to," I said, moving over to make room for Katie.

I couldn't help but notice as she got close to me how good she smelled. Whatever perfume she had on was the perfect mix of floral and sweet, and it was almost intoxicating.

"What perfume are you wearing?" I asked her, "You smell great."

"It's Bombshell from Victoria's Secret," Katie said, glancing at me, "I've been wearing it since high school, it's never done me wrong."

"Well, you smell amazing," I said to her.

I saw her smile and she said, "Thanks, Cameron."

There was a pause for a moment, and she then said, "I just wanted to warn you, that Tristan is picking me up from work tonight. I told him to not come in...but just in case we get out at the same time and you see him in the parking lot."

"Thanks for the heads up," I said to Katie.

Just my luck, I knew that Katie and I would get out at the same time, and I would see Tristan.

Katie and I didn't get cut at the same time though, I got cut before her for the night. I was exhausted from the night, and ready to just go home and lay down on my bed.

When I walked out of the restaurant, I saw a very familiar truck outside, parked toward the front of the building.

I felt a chill go down my spine when I realized who it was.

Tristan.

I turned away and started walking to my car as fast as I could, but I heard his voice say my name.

"Cameron?"

Fuck.

I turned around to face Tristan, who was looking at me from the window of his truck.

Seeing him immediately brought on a flood of emotions. Everything from sadness to anger to regret.

"Yes?" I said back to him, not coming close to his truck.
