I knew that I was going to have to face the music when it came to telling both Kim and Tyler about Katie, considering they saw her both in front of the house and out to eat with me.
I wound up sleeping at Katie's house again after we went to the diner, for the second night in a row. I didn't have work the next day, but Katie was working a lunch shift.
"I really love having you stay over," she said after she walked me to my car in the morning, "You're more than welcome to any time."
"I'm sure I'll take you up on that a lot," I said to her, and she then leaned in and gave me a kiss on the cheek before I left.
By the time I got home, Tyler was in his room working, and Kim was at her Pilates class.
I knocked on Tyler's door, and he told me that I could come in. I sat down on his bed, and he swiveled his chair to face me.
"I'm not interrupting you, I hope?" I asked him.
"It's a welcomed interruption," he said, "Work is already fucking annoying."
"I'm sorry," I said to him, "I hope the day gets better."
"Same," he said, "So. Are you going to tell me about Katie?"
I felt myself blush as I said, "Well...we kind of have a thing going on."
"I could tell when I saw you and her yesterday. I assume her and Tristan broke up?"
"He cheated on her," I said to Tyler, "We already had a flirty vibe, though. And now we were able to act upon it."
"I would have never expected this," Tyler said, "But if you're happy, I'm happy for you. You deserve someone who will treat you right, and if that's Katie, so be it."
"It seems that way so far. Thank you," I smiled at my brother.
Next was Kim. After she came home from Pilates and showered, she asked me if I wanted her to make me lunch. I said "Yes", and I sat at the kitchen counter as she prepared food for us.
"You and Katie are friends now?" Kim asked me as she cut up a cucumber for the salad she was making.
"Yes...about that. We're kind of...more than friends," I said to Kim.
I knew I didn't have to tell her. Tyler wouldn't tell Kim if I told him not to. But I figured if Katie and I kept seeing each other, I would have to tell her at some point. Plus, Kim can be more like a friend. I feel like I can tell her these things.
Kim paused her chopping and she turned around and looked at me.
"When did this happen?" she asked me.
"Well, she and Tristan broke up a couple of days ago. And there was always this vibe between us. I guess we're just...acting on it?"
"Hey, I mean...believe it or not, I've heard of weirder situations," Kim laughed, "Katie seemed like a very nice girl. As long as she's nice to you, that's what matters to me."
"She is," I said to Kim.
Kim smiled at me, "This is the first time I've seen you look genuinely happy since everything happened with Tristan and losing the baby. I hope it all goes well."
"Thank you," I said to Kim, "I appreciate that."
I always felt lucky to have a stepmom like Kim. Sure, when I was in high school she would sometimes get too much in my business, but she has always been nothing but supportive to me.
When I came out as bisexual to my parents when I was 17, she said she loved me no matter what. When I told her that I was pregnant, she supported me immediately.
