When Katie and I got into her car, she leaned against the seat and closed her eyes for a moment.
"I fucking hate her," she said, "I hate Nikki."
"I can see why," I said to Katie.
Katie opened her eyes and sighed, "I'm sorry if your Thanksgiving is ruined. That was not my intention."
"Katie, it's you that I care about right now. I don't care about Thanksgiving dinner."
Katie looked at me, "Are you sure?"
I nodded, "Positive. I didn't want to be around her anymore either."
Katie gave me a small smile and said, "Thank you. It's nice knowing that I can count on you."
"Always," I said to Katie.
Katie looked at me warmly and then said, "I know that I have to tell you about what Nikki spilled. Can it wait until we get back home?"
"Of course," I nodded, "Focus on driving. Just know that it doesn't change how I feel about you in any way."
On the ride home I chose the music for us, playing mostly country music so Katie could sing along to it, which she started doing. I could slowly see her start to relax.
As we got closer to home she said, "I hate that my brother wanted to stay there. I understand he is pretty close with my dad, but it stings, I won't lie."
"I completely understand why that would upset you. It would hurt me if one of my brothers did that."
"I just thought that I was close enough with Kyle that he would be angry enough to come home. I guess not."
Before I could say anything back, Katie asked me, "Are you still hungry? I'm honestly starving still, I didn't eat much there."
"I could eat," I said to her.
An idea then dawned on me.
"We don't have to do this if you don't want to, but I am sure Kim brought home a bunch of leftovers with her, she always does. If you wanted more Thanksgiving food, we could go back to my house. Don't worry, we don't have to explain why we left early."
"That sounds great," Katie nodded, "Wawa is the only thing open, and I wasn't really in the mood for that. Are you sure Kim will be okay with me eating any leftovers?"
"Of course. They're for everyone."
"Alright," Katie smiled, "I'll drive to your house, then."
When Katie and I walked into my house, Kim and my Dad, who were watching TV in the living room, turned to look at us.
"Cam!" Kim said, "Why are you here, is everything alright? I'm happy to see you both, but weren't you having dinner in New Jersey?"
"We decided to leave," I said, "But we didn't eat much. Did you bring home leftovers?"
"Of course we did," my Dad nodded, "They're in the fridge. Help yourselves."
"Do you mind if I join you in the kitchen? I'll fix you both a plate with everything on it." Kim asked.
"Of course not," Katie said to Kim.
I knew that Kim likely wanted to find out more information as to why we left. I love her, but she is nosy.
Katie and I sat down at the kitchen counter, and Kim started putting food on plates for us.
She looked at Katie, "Your hair looks very pretty. Did you get extensions?"
