(Phil's POV)
Last day of school. When I woke up, I got dressed and checked off my calendar. I heard my mom downstairs shuffling through pans.

"Mom, what are you doing?" I asked as I came down the carpeted steps.

"I wanted to make a nice breakfast for you since this is your last day of high school."

"Oh. Cool." I sat down on the couch as I waited for breakfast to be done. My dad came downstairs dressed in a blue robe with matching blue slippers. His beard was starting to grow back in and he had his newspaper in his hand.

I always questioned him on why he still read the paper when he could just go onto his iPhone and he said it reminded him of his dad because his dad always read the daily paper.

Grandpa died four years back. It was the only time I ever saw my dad cry and it was really hard to see. Dad sat down next to my on the couch and turned on the news.

"Boys, dinner is ready!" Mum called a few minutes later making my stomach growl at the thought of food.

I walked into the kitchen and saw pancakes and bacon on the kitchen table. Dad and I got a generous serving and both started munching down quickly.

Mum decided on just having some weight watcher's toast and fruit instead of the delicious bacon to watch her "already" slim figure.

After I swallowed my last bite, I said goodbye to both of my parents and went out the door.

I didn't see any of my friends walking so it was a pretty boring walk.

When I got to school, I saw kids inside talking and whispering.

I saw a flash of red hair and jogged up to her, "Hayley, what's going on?"

"No one knows. The principle called an immediate assembly." Hayley shrugged. The principle has never done that.

When the auditorium doors opened, the whole school filed into the two double doors. I sat beside Hayley.

After about five minutes, the lights dimmed and the stage lights came on. Our principle walked up to the middle of the stage where the microphone was.

He tapped the microphone three times to make sure it was turned on before speaking into it, "Hello, students."

"Hello, Mr. Howard." The audience mumbled at different times.

"This is a different type of assembly. An assembly to mention a student of mine. Or should I saw, ex-student of mine." Mr. Howard made a sad face.

"Requested by his mother, I am here to speak of an accident that occurred yesterday, June 10th at 11:01 p.m," The audience was quiet as they listened to him talk, "I'm just going to say this quick, and straight-up like ripping off a bandage. Jack Barakat, senior, committed suicide last night. That's right, students. This wasn't an attempt. It happened. It's real."

The whole audience was in awe, even the ones who didn't know who he was. I felt my eyes well up with tears. Even though Jack wasn't my favorite person, he's still a human and the fact he's been to my house and stuff. It was sad. Hayley saw me and put her arm around my shoulder.

"We're going to take a moment of silence for Jack right now." The principle stated.

I tilted my head downwards and closed my eyes.

"Okay, you can put your head up now." Mr. Howard told us.

I sat up and twiddled my thumbs trying to look casual even though I was really upset.

"Students, you may be asking yourself, why would he do such a thing? He had such a good life...what you don't know is Jack has a disease. He has schizophrenia. Which means he has hallucinations. Jack hallucinated someone telling him to kill himself. It's a very, very unfortunate thing to happen. And I do hope this assembly helped this school learn to grieve. Any questions?" Mr. Howard looked out into the hallway, looking for raised hands.

The audience was dead silent, "No questions? I guess that concludes this assembly. Thank you, students, for your respect."

The students started, still silently, filing out of the huge auditorium.

The students who didn't have a final to do today left school early while I had to stay back to take my history final.

I leaned against my locker as I looked through my notes. When the bell rang, I did a little prayer to God, who I didn't think existed, and started walking towards the history wing.

When I got there, I sat in my seat. The class chatted as we waited for the teacher to come. I always struggled in this class since the other students had years of experience learning about American history and this is my first year learning about it. I remembered learning about the revolutionary war in the U.K. where the U.S. was often brought up but for the most part I was clueless.

The door opened and the teacher walked in. His tie was crooked, his eyes were bloodshot, and his hair was messy.

"Sorry, class, baby kept me up all night." He tried to straighten his tie but failed.

The teacher grabbed the final exams from a locked door in his desk. Once they were distributed, he started the timer.

"You may start...now." Sounds of papers flipping were heard all through the room.

After an hour, I finished my exam. I was one of the last people done and I wasn't sure how I did. Regardless, I handed in the test, grabbed my books, and left the school.

Dan☺️: Hey
Phil: Hi
Dan☺️: I'm excited for tomorrow <3
Phil: Me too :3
Dan☺️: What time are you picking me up?
Phil: 4:00 p.m.
Dan☺️: How should I dress?
Phil: Casual. But wear swim trunks apparently.
Dan☺️: Lol. Okay.

I put my phone away and started walking towards home dragging my feet slowly, knowing I had nothing to look forward to tonight and I would probably just be bored. I might call Dan later though and talk to him.
