A/N:
Welcome to book 2🥳 and wow this is a 2.5k word chapterYOUR POV:
Emma led the group of us through the woods with a compass in hand. We were all in awe at the tall trees and wild life that surrounded us. It was nothing like we had ever seen before. Everything was brand new.
"It's so big!" Don says in awe.
"Watch your step!" Emma states.
We eventually come to a clearing as Emma places the compass into her pocket with a smile, "it's time for breakfast everyone!"
Everyone cheers as everyone sets up to eat, pulling out their bread and water. "Don't eat everything at once," Gilda warns, "we should try and stretch out the food and water we brought."
"Emma, aren't you going to eat with us?!" Chris asks, tugging in Emma's sweater.
Emma shakes her head, "I have to keep watch, so go and eat with everyone else, okay?"
Chris runs off and joins the other kids.
"Aren't you going to eat?" I hear Ray ask me as I'm brought back to reality.
"No. I'm not hungry," I reply.
"You need to eat," Ray says, "you'll need your energy."
"I'm not hungry, I think it's all the adrenaline." I say sitting down on a nearby tree root, "I'm still freaked from the whole house fire thing."
Ray doesn't respond, and so I spoke instead.
"I hope you know I'm still mad at you for your actions. I knew something was up when you kept talking about everyone else but yourself, you never included yourself. At first I didn't think much about it, until you brought it up again." I say playing with the sleeves of my sweater, "and then there was the whole suicide attempt. Do you know how worried I was? I couldn't sleep. I couldn't sleep because I thought you were gonna die."
"...I'm sorry for the whole suicide thing."
"Ray," I grab hold of the end of his sweater and tug on it as he looks at me, "please don't try something stupid like that again...I-I don't know what I would do if you—!"
Finally the adrenaline wore off as the tears slipped from my eyes.
I heard a sigh as arms wrapped around me, "I'm sorry I scared you." I wrapped my arms around his form and hugged him tightly as I cried into his shoulder.
We stayed like that for a bit until Ray pulled away, "let's go check on Emma, yeah?"
I nod as I wipe my tears. Ray and I walk over to Emma, "heyo."
Emma jumps and turns around to see us, "heyo?!" She panics.
"Chill," Ray says, "this isn't a savage area for demons. I haven't seen any droppings or foot prints...anyway, you're way too eager." Ray hands Emma a jar of water and a load of bread, "I'll keep watch."
"Thanks," Emma says taking the jar and bread.
"And I'm sorry," Ray quietly adds.
"Hm?" Emma asks taking a bite of her meal.
"If I had been cooperative from the start, you wouldn't have gotten hurt and lost an ear."
Emma laughs, "don't worry about it! As long as you're alive and smiling, that's all I care about!"
"And I apologized to Anna, but you know what she told me? She just said happy birthday."
My eyes widen, "oh my god! It is your birthday!" I exclaim as Ray and Emma look at me, "I-I knew since last night and it just slipped my mind! Oh geez," I began to get flustered, "I-I usually have something made for you, but I didn't this time. Ah geez, I'm so so so so—!"
