Chapter ten
"Let's go for a muffin run."
The next morning, Hannah got dressed and was wearing a white tank top and a pair of light blue jeans as she wore the knitted cropped swear Jeremiah got her from the boutique she headed downstairs into the kitchen, finding Jeremiah making himself a hangover remedy "ooh, I see Dr Jeremiah had a little too much to drink last night and Nicoles party." she shared, as Jeremiah chuckled "yeah." he told her, as he noticed her wearing the sweater he got her "so how was your night?" he asked her, as Hannah smiled "well, it was different not having you guys there because when they sing somewhere in the crowd there's you and it's just you sitting there, it kind of loses it's impact." she shared.
As Jeremiah started laughing, Hannah joined him "there's that smile." Jeremiah told her, and when he did, Hannah scoffed "stop." she told him, rolling her eyes "I'm serious, I feel really bad leaving you alone on your birthday when Conrad already forgot it." Jeremiah shared, as Hannah furrowed her brows "you all wanted to go out and do something different for once, that's okay." she told him "not when your upset. I mean if you want me to punch Conrad for not only forgetting your birthday but for making you cry I will." Jeremiah shared "no!" Hannah voiced.
As Jeremiah stood up, putting up his fist as he moved toward's her throwing pretend punches "bam. Bam. Fight in your honor." he told her, as Hannah laughed "stop!" she voiced, bringing her hands out to stop him, as Jeremiah laughed "so, I was thinking about going on a muffin run and wanted to know if you'd wanna come with me." Hannah shared "I'm always down for a muffin run." Jeremiah told her "cool." Hannah told him, as Jeremiah stepped back "I'm gonna make a to go cup. Do you mind grabbing the keys from Conrad's room?" he asked her.
As Hannah raised her brows "seeing as he isn't home then yes, I will go get them." she shared, turning on her heel, as she walked down the hallway, passing Belly on the way, she turned heading up the stairs and down the hallway toward's her room, but instead of going into her's, she opened up the door to Conrad's, where as she stepped inside for the first time this entire summer, it all still looked the same as she remembered it, as she shook her head, she walked toward's his desk, knowing that's where he kept his keys.
She opened the top drawer but when she did, there wasn't keys but condoms, guitar picks and a pack of cigarettes, she scoffed, moving the stuff out of the way to find the keys, but as she did, her hand touched a velvet box and when it did, curiosity got the better of her, as she grabbed it, and opened it, and when she did her eyes went wide, because inside of it was a ring, that was sterling silver and had a diamond frame.
Where she didn't even give her brain enough time to comprehend who it was for, as she quickly shut the box and put it back where it was and found Conrad's car keys and moved everything back where it was, as she quickly shut the drawer, and turned walking out of his room, shutting the door behind her.
Where Jeremiah was driving, as Hannah sat in the passenger seat of the keep the radio was playing quietly, as the two hadn't said anything to each other "look, I should probably apologize for what happened at the drive in. I mean I made out with enough girls and guys over the summer that I have no right to make fun of anyone else for doing the same." Jeremiah shared, and as he did, Hannah chuckled "believe me nobody wishes that entire night didn't happen more then I do." she shared "so is he gonna be your date to the deb ball?" Jeremiah asked her.
As Hannah looked to him "possibly. But that's it. Me and him decided that we were better off as friends." she shared, as she raised her brows "but also can't believe last night you asked Cam if you could call him Cam Cameron." she shared, as her and Jeremiah started laughing "i mean that poor boy probably only said it like that because he was nervous from some crazy drunk girl and some sober guy practically telling him to go away." Hannah shared, making the two of them laugh even more.
And as they did, the song on the radio changed, as Jeremiah gasped "oh my gosh, it's our song." he told her, reaching his hand out and turning it up, and as he did, she will be loved by maroon five started playing, and as it did, Jeremiah started singing to her.
"Beauty queen of only 18
She had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her
She always belonged to someone else
I drove for miles and miles and wound up at your door
I've had you so many times but somehow, I want more
I don't mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
And ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved
And she will be loved."
He sang and as he did, Hannah laughed, as Jeremiah motioned to her with one hand "come on! Your not gonna sing with me? You used to play this song all the time when you drove us to school!" he voiced, as Hannah chuckled "I didn't sing it!" she voiced "yes! Yes, you did! I vividly remember that." Jeremiah shared, putting his hand on her shoulder, Hannah shoved it off "both hands on the wheel! Your lucky I'm even letting you drive." she told him, as Jeremiah raised his brows "me? You should see Belly, she almost killed us yesterday." he shared, making Hannah laugh, and as she did, she then started singing.
"I know I tend to get so insecure
Doesn't matter anymore
It's not always rainbows and butterflies
It's compromises that move us along, yeah
My heart is full and my door's always open
You come any time you want, yeah.
Then Jeremiah joined her as the two were singing together.
"I don't mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while."
Jeremiah then screamed "she will be loved!" in which Hannah started laughing "no, stop!" she voiced "she will be loved!" Jeremiah voiced, making Hannah laugh, as the two continued driving down the road.
And that afternoon, when the sun was setting, Laurel, Susannah and Brooke were all sitting out on the beach, as the three of them laughed "um, I was doing some research last night." Laurel shared "for your next book?" Susannah asked "I was looking into alternative therapies. Apparently, a lot has changed in the last three years." Laurel shared "have you been speaking to Adam?" Susannah asked her, as she looked to Brooke, knowing that Matthew had already gone down that road even though he wasn't an oncologist he had spoken to his friends at the hospital and gotten as much information as he could, but Susannah didn't want it, and they understood, having been there every step of the way.
"I know you said you didn't wanna do chemo, but.." Laurel told her, as Brooke reached out and grabbed Susannah's "I already talked about it with Matt who had already told me everything that your trying to do and I decided, I'm not putting myself through treatment again. I know how much time I have left." Susannah shared, as she squeezed Brooke's hand "Beck.." Laurel told her, as Susannah looked to her "no, it's okay. I'm at peace with it." she told her, looking back out into the ocean "Hannah only found out by accident when I was telling Matt and Brooke but I'll tell the kids when we get back to Boston. I just want one last perfect summer at cousins. That's all I want." Susannah shared.
"Okay." Laurel told her, as she was holding Susannah's other hand, Brooke took a deep breath "you guys are gonna make me cry again, you know that.." she told them, as all three of them laughed, squeezing each other's hands.
