Chapter twenty three
"A night to remember."
Later that night, everyone began arriving for the actual ball "thanks, Steven." Susannah told him, as she handed him the car keys, her voice broke "yeah, of course." Steven told her, as he walked around them, Brooke stood off to the side with her arm linked with Conrad's as Susannah stepped toward's them "are handsome date." she told them "guys." Conrad told them, as Susannah and Brooke laughed, as the three walked up to Laurel and Jeremiah "look at us. It's perfect." Susannah told them.
"Mom, you're not gonna cry are you?" Jeremiah asked "what, and ruin my makeup? No way." Susannah shared, laughing with Brooke, Steven walked up to them "it's just..everything's gonna be different next year. Conrad and Hannah are going off to college." Susannah shared "yep." Conrad told her "it may be the last summer we're all together." Susannah shared "stop it. Like you said, no crying yet. I'm just glad Matt's not here, don't think he could exactly handle this." Brooke shared, chuckling, trying to lighten the mood.
"Just don't forget I get a dance with you tonight." Jeremiah shared, as he stepped toward's Susannah dancing with her, he dipped her back, making Susannah laugh but as he brought her back up, she stumbled, as Brooke quickly moved forward, steadying her "oh, mom, you okay?" Jeremiah asked her "yeah, no, it's just, uh..it's been way too long since I danced. I, um, must be out of practice." Susannah shared "let's go inside, yeah?" Brooke asked her, as Susannah hummed, the two began walking towards' the entrance, as Conrad followed behind them.
In the green room, Hannah was standing there, looking at herself in the mirror as she had put Susannah's pearls on, then her gloves, where as she did, Belly was looking at her and as she did, she realized what Susannah meant when she was golden, it wasn't in her hair or her sun kissed skin, it was in her smile and how when she wore white it was like this golden aura was around her like an angel, and right now she looked like the perfect bride, which must've been the vision Susannah and Brooke were going for when they said everybody's eyes would fall out of their heads when they saw her, cause her's sure were, where they all then began to leave, going and grabbing the rose bouquets before heading out, where Hannah was the last one.
Where meanwhile in the boys green room, Rafael was standing there as he listened to Conrad, Jeremiah and Steven talking "hey, you guys ready for the escort dance?" Conrad asked them "dude, I..I actually still can't believe, you roped me into this." Steven shared "oh, come on, dude. The girls are gonna love it. Especially Hannah.." Jeremiah shared, as he turned to Rafael "who loves a good dance routine by the way not sure if you know." he shared, as Steven hit him in the arm "dude." he told him "what?" Jeremiah asked him, laughing.
"I kind of wish we were all doing it together, you know?" Conrad asked "uh, you wish you were doing a dance routine?" Steven asked him "no, no. No." Conrad told them, as the three of them laughed "I didn't mean that literally. I just, you know, we haven't hung out much this summer, so.." Conrad shared "yeah, you've been pretty MIA." Jeremiah told him "yeah. Yeah, I know. I know. That's on, that's on me. But I was thinking about it. We have, like, a week or so left of summer. What if we all went on an over night fishing trip?" Conrad asked.
"Dude, yeah, I'm in." Steven told him "yeah?" Conrad asked "yeah." Steven told him "yeah, me too." Jeremiah told them "all right. Hey, you guys, are gonna kill this." Conrad told them, as he leaned forward dabbing up Steven "thanks, man." Steven told him, as he hugged him, Conrad then hugged Jeremiah "thanks, Connie." he told him, and as he did, Conrad then saw Rafael and knew he had to talk to him, where as he pulled away from Jeremiah, he stepped toward's him "look, the day I met you I was an ass. But now I'm gonna sound like an even bigger ass by telling you that this night means a lot to Hannah. And even more to my mother. So if you do anything to screw it up. I will punch you in the face." he shared.
And as he did, Rafael nodded "understood." he told him "okay." Conrad told him, as he turned around walking out, and as he did, Steven and Jeremiah looked to him "and for the record, if you do anything one of us will probably punch you in the face before he does." Jeremiah shared, as Steven nudged him "okay, enough." he told him, as Jeremiah laughed.
Waiting in the back of the line, Hannah was squeezing her bouquet so tight afraid she was gonna mess something up or if her outfit was too much, where she wasn't even listening to the names as she just watched Belly in front of her move forward, letting her know to do the same, where the two had walked up the stairs, waiting in the wings now, where as she did, Jeremiah stood across the way from Belly but as he did, his eyes went to the girl behind her, not knowing it was Hannah seeing as she was keeping her head down.
"Isabel Conklin, daughter of John Conklin and Laurel Park." Paige shared, as Belly began to walk across with Jeremiah that meant it was Hannah's turn, where she honestly wasn't hearing anything, and she was starting to feel like she was gonna fall "Hannah Bass, daughter of Matthew and Brooke Bass." Paige shared, and as she did, Hannah lifted her head up and looked at Rafael, where the two began walking toward's each other "Hannah is going to be a student at Brown university. Where she will be studying to become a doctor." Paige shared.
As Hannah and Rafael made it to the middle, the two linked arms as they stepped out, pictures began to be taken, as Rafael unlinked his arm from her's and lifted her veil up, showing her face, as more pictures of them were being taken, her mom and Susannah squeezed each other's hands as they smiled at her "this..this is the vision." Susannah told them, as Conrad was staring at her, realizing what his mom meant when she told him she looked like a princess in her deb dress, although she forgot to mention the part to him where she was making this into her wedding, because now all he wanted was to be the guy up there with her even after everything he had done.
"Hannah also was captain of the cheerleading squad in high school, and this summer raised the most money out of everybody, racking up a hundred thousand dollars for breast cancer." Paige shared, and when she did, Hannah looked to Susannah and her mom and smiled at them, as the two were smiling at her.
Hannah and Rafael then walked down, Rafael stayed back with the others, as Hannah walked towards the table, she gave Susannah her bouquet of roses, having tears in her eyes, Susannah stood up and hugged her, Hannah hugged her back, as she then turned around and walked back to Rafael, ignoring Conrad completely, where as she did, her ears then tuned out everything else, as she kept her eyes on Susannah, where Susannah looked right back at her, both taking this moment to memory.
