Chapter fifty
"The rainstorm."
The storm didn't just pass right over them, the dark rain clouds only began to roll in more as the thunder only got louder, where soon they were trapped in the car, not just by the storm but by the non stop traffic, where they hadn't moved for a few good hours now, where it was now the middle of the night, where cars were now honking all around them, as thunder boomed in the distance, Hannah was holding onto Conrad's arm so tight, Conrad had his arms around her.
A phone chimed "fuck, it just added another half hour to our ETA." Jeremiah shared "oh, my god, seriously?" Belly asked "maybe we should get off and take a back road or something?" Jeremiah asked "yeah, it's not like they'll be flooded, where the wheels will then get stuck and then we'll be even more stuck." Hannah shared, as Conrad sighed "once the storm band passes by, the roads will start to clear up." he shared, knowing Hannah was panicking, Jeremiah turned and looked at her "what do you want me to do?" he asked her "yeah, what do you want Hannah?" Conrad asked her, looking down at her.
"What do I want?" Hannah asked, raising her brows "what I want is to not be trapped in rainstorm in the middle of the road where all I can think about is all of us drowning in it. What I want is something to eat, because I am starving cause unlike the three of you? I didn't eat anything last night other then french fries and I also have to go to the bathroom and I mean in a bathroom like a lady." she shared, as Jeremiah looked back to the front "okay, great, right. I'll, uh, get off, I guess." he shared, as the four of them waited there until they could start moving again.
Where when Jeremiah got off, he soon pulled into the nearest gas station he saw, and as he did, Hannah grabbed her burberry sweater and put it on, as she got out of the car with her hood over her head, Belly got out of the car as well, as the two ran to the bathroom.
Jeremiah and Conrad got out of the car, walking inside of the gas station, getting soaked from the rain, the two began looking at the chips and candy in front of them, as an emergency alert sounded, Jeremiah pulled his phone out of his pocket and saw another weather alert "great." he said, while Conrad grabbed a bag of chips, he turned around and looked at the candy grabbing some, Jeremiah noticed him do so, as he went and grabbed his own, as he walked up to the counter.
Conrad had picked out mam's and chocolate covered pretzels and as he did, Jeremiah then threw down sour patch kids along with swedish fish onto the counter, and when he did, Conrad looked at his choices, he chuckled "don't waste your money, buddy. She likes these better." he shared "she's hungry. Starving actually." Jeremiah shared "yeah, but Hannah thinks gummy candy taste like plastic and she hates sour patch kids cause it makes her scrunch her face up. She likes chocolate the best." Conrad shared.
As Jeremiah looked around him, he noticed the fridge full of coke a cola and walked towards it, grabbing the cherry cola, as he turned around, putting it on the counter "why do you even care?" he asked him "I don't." Conrad told him, as Jeremiah scoffed "that's bullshit. This is because I reminded you of what you did on her birthday? Your making up for it now." he shared "you still want these?" the guy behind the counter asked him "yes, yes." Jeremiah told him "okay." the guy told him "I tried to warn him." Conrad shared.
As Jeremiah looked to him "why are you acting like this?" he asked him "relax, you big fucking baby. I'm just messing with you." Conrad told him as he stepped back "nineteen seventeen." the guy behind the counter told him as he held out the bag, Jeremiah pulled his wallet out and gave him the money "here. Just keep, keep the change." he told him, taking the bag, he turned walking out with Conrad "you realize she's scared, right? Like she's always been of thunderstorms since we were kids and you holding another grudge over me for things that happened between me and her while you weren't showing up for her isn't fair." he shared.
And as he did, Conrad just stared at him, knowing he was right, he did have no right, and right now all he was trying to do was be that guy for her again, maybe trying too had "you boys hear they're shutting down the highway?" the guy at the counter asked as the two looked to him "there's a motel down the road if you need a place to bunk up." the guy shared, as Conrad turned walking out "thanks." Jeremiah told him, as he turned walking out as well.
Heading back into the rain and back into the car, Hannah and Belly were waiting for them "oh, my god." Jeremiah said, as he turned handing the bag to Hannah "here." he told her, as Hannah grabbed it "thank you." she told him, grabbing at what was at the top of the bag, she held the four bags of sour patch and swedish fish in her hands "ooh, sour patch. My favorite." Belly said taking it and as she did, Hannah looked to the swedish fish, Hannah chuckled "aren't you gonna take it? I know it's your favorite." she shared "yeah, I got em for me." Jeremiah shared, grabbing them.
Hannah then dug into the bag again, pulling out the mam's and chocolate covered pretzels, she then noticed the soda, cherry cola, as she put the snacks down and grabbed the bottle, opening it, she started drinking it, as Conrad reached over grabbing the chocolate covered pretzels from her "is everything okay?" Belly asked Jeremiah "no. Uh, the highways shutting down. The guy inside told us. Um, he said there was a motel nearby if we wanted to stay there, instead of here." Jeremiah shared "can we? Cause gross or not I'd take it instead of sitting in this car." Hannah shared, as thunder boomed in the distance.
