Chapter twenty two

"Slipping through my fingers."

The next morning, Hannah was laying in her bed, still in Conrad's flannel, hugging junior mint, soaking up the last moments that would be of him, as the door to her room opened, and when it did, Susannah looked at her, not having the heart to wake her up the same way she did Belly, as she walked toward's her and sat down on her bed "Hannah.." she told her, moving her hand through her hair "no." Hannah told her, rolling over, and as she did, Susannah laughed "yes. Todays your big day. And I have lots of special things to do with you." she shared "I don't feel like going anymore." Hannah told her.

"Why? You know you can talk to me." Susannah told her, as Hannah turned to her "this summers just not going the way I thought it would." she shared, as Susannah ran her hand through her hair, she let out a breath "you're doing just fine." she told her, and when she did, Hannah had tears in her eyes again, as she let go of junior mint, and sat up hugging her, and as she did, Susannah hugged her back.

Where Hannah then got dressed, wearing a short white dress, she walked down the stairs and into the kitchen and when she did, Jeremiah looked at her "you look.." he was telling her, as Belly looked to her "Hannah.." she told her, as Conrad looked from the coffee pot to her "hey, good morning. I, um..I picked up some of those good muffins." he told her, grabbing the package, he put them on the kitchen island "well, too bad, because I can't stay, the only reason I cam this way was because I was told my Susannah and my mom not to go down the main stair case so.." Hannah shared, giving him an attitude.

Susannah and Laurel then walked in "yes, you and Belly should get going. Oh, and everyone, stay out of the family room. I've done all of your paintings except for Hannah's because the way I envisioned it hasn't happened yet so by tonight they all will be done and we'll be able to unveil them all." Susannah shared, as she held a dress out to Jeremiah "can you put that in Laurel's car, honey?" she asked him "yeah, yeah." Jeremiah told her, as he stood up, walking out, Susannah walked up to Belly and Hannah "hurry, hurry." she told them, as Conrad looked to her "Hannah.." he told her, as Hannah raised her brows "I'm gone." she told them, as she turned walking out of the kitchen and out of the house.

Where she was walking up to her white Porsche, as Jeremiah ran over to her "Hannah, Hannah.." he told her "I'm not talking about this right now, Jeremiah." Hannah told him, as she opened the drivers side door "yet your running away from her to go be in a room full of girls who made you cry more then once. I mean I should seriously come with you, be your bodyguard." Jeremiah told her, as he held open her car door, Hannah climbed into it "as much as I would love that, they all would probably eat you alive seeing as they despise that you picked Belly and not them." she shared.

"Oof, right. How about instead? Hmm? You and me skip the whole thing together?" Jeremiah asked her, as Hannah chuckled "I think it's already late for that." she told him "not in this Porsche. I'm pretty sure we can get from here and back to Boston before they even find out." Jeremiah shared, as Hannah chuckled "enough, or your gonna make me late!" she voiced "fine. Fine." Jeremiah told her, shutting the car door, and as he did, Hannah started it up, she took it out of park and began to drive off.

Making it to the green room, Shayla walked up to her "I saved you a spot next to me and I think I'm gonna need to buy you and your mother something because according to Steven she made him this tux where meanwhile he had been spinning out of control on what he was gonna wear." she shared, making Hannah chuckle "you don't need to buy her anything, Steven's just an idiot." she shared, as Shayla joined her, chuckling, and when she did, she brought the two of them up to the vanity's that were there's but as she did, Hannah's had a box on it "what is this?" she asked her.

As Shayla smiled "I don't know it came with your dress that your mom dropped off." she shared, and when she did, Hannah opened the lid of the big white box and as she did, the first thing she saw was a tiny card, as she picked it up, it read.

To my beautiful girl,

Seeing as I won't be there for you and your special day, whenever that may be, this ball will be the closest I ever get to seeing you in a white dress, which is why this gift is bestowed to you on this way. Forever my lucky girl.

Love, Susannah

Where Hannah then dropped the card on the table and as she did, she took the paper off, and as she did, a veil was underneath it and as it was, she started to cry, as she turned running out of there "Hannah?" Shayla asked her, but Hannah didn't turn back, where she started to feel like she couldn't breathe, where all she wanted to do was get out of there, and she had been here so many times, but right now, she felt all turned around.

"Hey!" Susannah voiced, and as she did, Hannah stopped and looked to her "aren't you supposed to be getting dressed?" Susannah asked her, and seeing her, Hannah started to breathe heavy "will you help me?" she asked her, and when she did, Susannah smiled at her, as her mom then walked out, holding her dress "that's what she's here for." she told her, smiling at her, and as they did, Hannah smiled back at them.

Where Hannah had done her makeup, as Susannah curled her hair, leaving the two front pieces that always fell in her face out as she pulled the other front pieces back and made it into a braid that look like a crown around the top of her head, as the rest of it was curled, she then helped her into her white dress, lacing up the corset, and making sure it was fluffy on the bottom, and helped her put her heels on, where Hannah then stood up, as the two looked into the mirror, as Susannah put her hands on her shoulders, taking this moment in, the two smiled, Hannah then sang and when she did, Susannah sang with her.

"sometimes I wish that I could

freeze the picture

and save it from the funny

 tricks of time."

Susannah then took her hands off of her shoulders and put her hands into the box, picking up the veil, she put it on top of her head, where it set, the two then sang.

"slipping through my fingers."

As Susannah kissed her on the cheek, she flipped the veil over, where it covered her face, as Hannah laughed "no crying. Not yet. You'll ruin your makeup." Susannah shared "okay." Hannah told her, as her voice broke "okay." Susannah told her, as her voice broke, she hugged her, as Hannah hugged her back.
