Travis
The locker room buzzed with the usual post-practice energy. We just started the new football season, it's been great. Everyone was in high spirits, but there was one thing missing—Ari. Life had been great on the field; the Kansas City Chiefs were gearing up for a home game against the Bears, and our confidence was soaring. But as much as I loved football, I couldn't shake the feeling of longing for Arianna. She was still in Europe, killing it on her tour, and I missed her like crazy.
"Kelce, you ready for Sunday?" Isiah asked, throwing a towel over his shoulder as he headed to his locker.
"Born ready, man," I replied, adjusting my pads. "The Bears won't know what hit 'em."
The guys around us laughed and nodded in agreement. As I peeled off my gear, the usual locker room banter started up.
"Yo, Kelce, you been liking those cold showers lately?" Isiah teased, a wide grin on his face. "Heard they're good for cooling down all that... frustration."
Laughter erupted around the room, and I couldn't help but chuckle. "Hey, at least I'm not the one complaining about no action," I shot back.
Isiah held up his hands in mock surrender. "Fair point, fair point. Just saying, you and Ari went from fucking like rabbits to no sex. Must be rough, man."
Patrick, across the room, groaned. "Hey, that's my sister you're talking about. I don't want to hear this shit."
We all laughed, and I patted Patrick on the back. "Don't worry, man. I'm a gentleman," I said with a wink.
Just then, one of the rookies, a young kid still getting his bearings, piped up. "Hey, Kelce, my girlfriend won't shut up about Arianna's guitar player. Theo Bennett, right? What's up with that guy?"
I felt a twinge of irritation. Theo Bennett had joined Arianna's tour when her original guitar player couldn't make it. He was good—really good—but I didn't like how close he was getting to my girlfriend. "Yeah, Theo's something else," I said, keeping my tone neutral. "Great player, though."
Isiah, never one to miss an opportunity, leaned in with a smirk. "Sounds like someone's a little jealous."
"Jealous? Nah," I said, trying to laugh it off. "I trust Ari. But if Theo tried anything, I'd handle it." I added, my voice taking on a serious edge.
Patrick, shaking his head, laughed. "Killa Trav, handling business."
Another rookie, clearly clueless about boundaries, asked, "So, Kelce, did Arianna give you the ok to hook up with other women?"
The room fell silent for a moment, and I could feel the tension rise. I walked over to the rookie and gave him a light smack on the head. "Listen, kid, if I even thought about that, Ari would cut my dick off," I said, half-jokingly. The room erupted in laughter again, breaking the tension.
I sat down on the bench, feeling the weight of the situation. Being away from Arianna was tough, no doubt about it. But we were committed to making this work, no matter what. I glanced around at my teammates, grateful for their camaraderie and support. We had a big game ahead, and I needed to stay focused. But in the back of my mind, I couldn't stop thinking about Ari. She was my world, and I'd do anything to keep our love strong.
After practice, I headed home, still feeling the high from the team's energy. Once I settled in, I decided to call Arianna. It was late, but I needed to hear her voice. The phone rang a few times before she answered, her voice groggy.
"Hey, babe," she said, her words slurred with sleep.
"Hey, Ari, did I wake you?" I asked, feeling a pang of guilt.
"It's okay," she murmured. "What time is it?"
I glanced at the clock and winced. "It's 3 a.m. there. Sorry, I didn't realize."
"It's fine," she said, her voice soft. "I'm just happy to hear you."
"I miss you," I said, my voice low and sincere. "I wish you could be here."
"I miss you too," she replied, a yawn escaping her lips. "But we'll be together soon."
"Yeah, we will," I agreed, feeling a bit more at ease. "I just needed to hear your voice. Helps me get through the day."
We talked for a few more minutes, keeping the conversation light and sweet. Just hearing her voice made me feel closer to her, even with an ocean between us. Eventually, I let her go back to sleep, promising to call again soon.
"Goodnight, Ari," I said softly.
"Goodnight, Travis," she replied, her voice full of love.
I hung up and lay back, feeling a sense of calm wash over me. No matter the distance or the challenges, I knew we could get through anything together.
