Arianna
The moment Travis and Patrick left the room, I felt a wave of nausea wash over me. What had I done? Theo's kiss, though brief and filled with a strange mix of emotions, had shattered any chance I had of mending things with Travis. My heart pounded in my chest, the reality of the situation sinking in deeper with each passing second.
I sat there, trying to process everything, when Brittany came back in. She took one look at me and knew something was seriously wrong.
"What happened?" she asked, her voice soft but urgent.
I couldn't bring myself to speak. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I just shook my head, unable to form the words.
"Ari, you need to talk to me. What happened?" she insisted, coming closer and taking my hand.
"I... I kissed Theo," I finally managed to choke out, my voice barely a whisper.
Brittany's eyes widened, shock and disappointment written all over her face. "Oh, Arianna... why?"
"It just happened. I don't know. He was there, and everything's been so confusing," I tried to explain, but even to me, it sounded hollow.
Before Brittany could respond, the door opened, and Travis walked back in, his face a mask of barely controlled fury. Patrick and Brittany exchanged a look before she stepped aside, giving us space.
"Travis, I—" I started, but he cut me off.
"Save it," he said, his voice cold and hard. "We need to talk. Now."
He closed the door behind him, and the room felt even smaller, the air thick with tension. I could barely breathe.
"Why, Arianna? Why him?" he demanded, his eyes boring into mine.
"I don't know," I whispered, tears spilling down my cheeks. "I was confused. Everything's been so hard, and he was just... there."
"That's not an excuse," he snapped. "You told me you two were just friends. You lied to me."
"I didn't mean to hurt you," I cried. "I love you, Travis. I've been so lost, and I made a mistake."
"A mistake?" he scoffed. "A mistake is forgetting to call. Kissing another man isn't a mistake. It's a choice."
"I know," I sobbed. "I'm so sorry. I never wanted this to happen."
He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. "I need to know something. Did you and Theo have sex?"
The question hung in the air like a dark cloud. I felt my stomach churn as the weight of his words sank in. How could I make him understand?
"No," I said firmly, looking him straight in the eye. "We didn't have sex. I swear to you, Travis. It was just a kiss. A stupid, meaningless kiss."
He nodded slowly, his eyes opening to meet mine. "Okay," he said, finally. "But this is going to be a long road, Ari. We need to work on our trust, and it's not going to be easy."
"I understand," I whispered. "I'm willing to do whatever it takes."
We sat there in silence, the enormity of what lay ahead of us pressing down like a weight. The door opened, and a doctor walked in, holding a clipboard.
"We've reviewed your X-rays, Ms. Jade," he said. "It's a grade 3 sprain. We'll need to put you in a cast, and you should be all good to go today."
"Thank you, Doctor," I managed to say, my voice shaky.
As the doctor and hospital staff came in to prepare for my cast, Travis stepped out to give me privacy. My heart ached as I watched him leave the room, knowing how much pain I had caused him.
