Arianna
The knock on the door startled me. I had just said goodbye to Brittany, who had come to visit and check on me. I assumed she had forgotten something. When I opened the door, I started to say, "Did you forget something, Brit?" But the words died in my throat when I saw who was standing there.
Travis.
He looked disheveled, his eyes filled with a mix of desperation and hope. For a moment, I just stood there, frozen in shock.
"Ari," he managed to say, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Travis," I replied, my voice trembling. "What are you doing here?"
"I... I had to see you," he said, taking a step closer. "I couldn't stay away any longer."
I took a step back, my expression hardening. "You shouldn't be here."
"I know, but please, just hear me out," he pleaded. "I need to explain."
I felt a whirlwind of emotions—anger, hurt, longing. Seeing him again brought everything rushing back. The betrayal, the love, the confusion. I wanted to slam the door in his face, but a part of me needed to hear what he had to say.
"Fine," I said, stepping aside to let him in. "But this better be good."
He walked in, looking around the house briefly before focusing back on me. "Ari, I didn't cheat on you. I swear. I don't remember much from that night, but I know I was drugged."
I crossed my arms, trying to keep my composure. "Do you have any proof?"
"Yes," he said, pulling out his phone. "I took a drug test after that night. It came back positive for a substance I've never taken. Here, see for yourself."
I took the phone from him, scanning the results on the screen. It was clear: he had indeed been drugged. My heart sank as I realized I had been wrong. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?" I asked, my voice trembling.
"I was scared," he admitted. "It's dangerous. Whoever did this could still be looking for revenge. I didn't want to risk you getting hurt."
I felt a mix of relief and guilt. Relief that he hadn't betrayed me, and guilt for not believing him. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked at him. "Travis, I'm so sorry."
He stepped closer, cupping my face in his hands. "It's okay, Ari. I understand why you felt the way you did. I just... I couldn't stay away from you any longer."
I looked into his eyes, searching for any sign of deceit, but all I saw was sincerity and pain. I wanted to believe him, but the wound was still too fresh. "Who do you think did it?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
He sighed, shaking his head. "I don't want to talk about that right now. I just want to be here with you in this moment."
Before I could say anything else, he leaned in and kissed me. It was tentative at first, but soon it deepened, our desperation and longing pouring into the kiss.
"How did you even know where I was?" I asked, breaking the kiss to catch my breath.
"I followed Brittany," he admitted. "I had to see you."
"Was that you at the game?" he asked, his eyes searching mine for the truth.
I nodded slowly. "Yes. Sterling begged me to go. I couldn't say no to her."
He nodded, taking in my words. "I'm glad you were there."
"Where's the bedroom?" he murmured against my lips.
