Travis
The music was pounding, the lights were flashing, and the crowd was completely captivated by Abel's performance. But my mind was somewhere else entirely. Just a few hours ago, Kayla and I had a massive fight about our relationship. I had finally gathered the courage to tell her I wanted to break up, but she insisted we go to therapy instead.
"Travis, we can work through this," she had said, her voice desperate. "We just need to try harder. Therapy can help us."
I had stared at her, feeling trapped. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to be honest with her, to tell her that my feelings had changed, that my heart was somewhere else. But seeing the tears in her eyes made it so much harder. In the end, I had agreed to come to the party, still uncertain about what the right decision was.
Now, standing in the crowd, I couldn't stop staring at Arianna. She was dancing, lost in the music, and her joy was contagious. Even in a sea of people, she stood out to me like a beacon. Every time she laughed or smiled, it tugged at something deep inside me.
Kayla was beside me, trying to enjoy the concert, but I could feel the tension between us. We hadn't resolved anything, and the fight still hung in the air like a dark cloud. I knew she could sense my distraction, and it only added to the guilt weighing me down.
Abel was killing it on stage, and the crowd was loving every minute of it. I tried to focus on the music, on the celebration for Brittany, but my eyes kept drifting back to Arianna. She was a vision, her movements graceful and free. I envied her ability to lose herself in the moment, to let go of everything else.
"Travis, are you even listening?" Kayla's voice broke through my thoughts.
I turned to her, forcing a smile. "Yeah, of course."
She sighed, clearly not convinced. "We need to talk about this. You can't just shut me out."
"I know," I said, my voice barely audible over the music.
She nodded reluctantly, and we both turned our attention back to the stage. But my mind was still on Arianna. Every glance in her direction reminded me of what I truly wanted, of the person who had captured my heart in ways I couldn't ignore.
As the concert went on, the conflict inside me grew. I knew I had to make a decision, and soon. It wasn't fair to Kayla, and it certainly wasn't fair to Arianna. They both deserved honesty, and I needed to find the courage to provide it.
Even in a sea of people, Arianna stood out to me like a beacon. Every time she laughed or smiled, it tugged at something deep inside me. Every glance in her direction reminded me of what I truly wanted, of the person who had captured my heart in ways I couldn't ignore.
Just then, Abel's voice rang out over the crowd. "Let's make it sexy in here. Arianna Jade, this is for you."
My heart skipped a beat as Abel locked eyes with Arianna and began to sing:
"I left my girl back home
I don't love her no more
And she'll never fucking know that
These fucking eyes that I'm staring at
Let me see that ass
Look at all this cash
And I emptied out my cards too
Now I'm fucking leaning on thatArianna looked like she was under a trance as Abel sang. Her laughter subsided, and she seemed to be entirely absorbed in the performance.
Abel continued:
"Bring your love, baby, I could bring my shame
Bring the drugs, baby, I could bring my pain
I got my heart right here
I got my scars right here
Bring the cups, baby, I could bring the drank
Bring your body, baby, I could bring you fame
And that's my motherfucking words too
Just let me motherfucking love youListen, ma, I'll give you all I got
Get me off of this, I need confidence in myself (Yeah, yeah, yeah, ohh, yeah)
Ohh, listen, ma, I'll give you all of me
Give me all of it, I need all of it to myself (Woah, woah)
So tell me you love me
(Only for tonight, only for the night)
Even though you don't love me (Ohh, ohh)
Just tell me you love me
(I'll give you what I need, I'll give you all of me)
Even though you don't love me (Ohh, ohh) (yeah, yeah) (yeah, yeah)"Kayla leaned in close, her voice dripping with suspicion and jealousy. "They are definitely fucking."
Her words hit me like a slap. I turned to her, struggling to keep my composure.
I took a deep breath, gathering my thoughts. "We're done. I can't do this anymore. No amount of therapy is going to fix this. We need to move on."
Her face twisted in anger and disbelief. "You're just going to end things here? At a party?"
"I don't want to drag this out any longer," I said, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me. "It's not fair to either of us. I've been trying to make this work, but it's clear that it's not going to. We need to move on."
Tears welled up in her eyes, but I could see the resolve forming in her expression. "So that's it? You're just done with us?"
I nodded, feeling a mixture of relief and guilt. "Yes. I'm sorry, Kayla, but I can't keep pretending. We both deserve better."
She shook her head, wiping away her tears angrily. "Fine, Travis. If that's how you feel, then we're done."
"I'll get you a hotel room for tonight," I said, trying to be as considerate as possible in this painful moment. "I'll take care of everything."
She looked at me with a mix of hurt and anger. "I don't need your charity. I'll make my own arrangements."
"Kayla, please," I said softly. "I just want to make sure you're okay."
She took a deep breath, her expression hardening. "I'll be fine, Travis. I don't need anything from you anymore."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving me standing alone amidst the crowd. I watched her go, feeling a pang of regret but also a sense of liberation. It was over, and now I had to face the consequences of my choices.
I turned back to the stage, where Abel was still performing. My eyes found Arianna again, her face lit up with joy as she danced to the music. I knew that ending things with Kayla was just the first step. Now, I had to find a way to make things right with Arianna, to show her that I was serious about wanting to be with her. The concert was near the end as I saw Arianna leave the crowd and head towards backstage.
The night was far from over, but I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was moving in the right direction, no matter how difficult it might be.
My heart pounded with anticipation as I headed towards the backstage area. I had to see her, to tell her that things with Kayla were finally over.
As I approached the backstage corridor, I saw her standing there, radiant and full of life. She was talking animatedly with someone, her face lit up with a smile that made my heart ache with longing.
I started walking down the hallway towards her, my steps quickening. But just as I was about to call out her name, I saw Abel get off the stage and walk up to her. They exchanged a few words, and then, to my shock, he leaned in and kissed her.
I stopped dead in my tracks, the scene unfolding before me like a punch to the gut. I watched as Arianna responded to the kiss, her arms wrapping around Abel's neck. It was a sight I hadn't expected, and it left me reeling.
My heart felt like it was being torn in two. I had just ended things with Kayla, finally ready to pursue what I truly wanted, only to be confronted with this. I didn't know what to think, what to feel. All I knew was that the sight of them together was enough to shatter any illusions I had about what might have been between Arianna and me.
I stood there, frozen, unable to tear my eyes away from them. The noise of the crowd, the aftermath of the concert, all of it faded into the background. All I could see was Arianna and Abel, locked in a moment that seemed to exclude the rest of the world.
I couldn't help but wonder if I had waited too long, if my indecision had cost me the one thing I wanted most.
