Travis

Back in Kansas City, the repercussions of the fight were unavoidable. The media frenzy was in full swing, and I knew I had to face the music. My meeting with Coach Reid and the board was scheduled for the afternoon, and I was bracing myself for whatever was coming.

The atmosphere in the meeting room was tense as I took my seat. Coach Reid, flanked by members of the board, looked at me with a mix of disappointment and concern.

"Travis, you know why we're here," Coach Reid began, his voice steady. "What happened in Chicago can't happen again."

I nodded, my jaw clenched. "I understand, Coach. I'm really sorry about the whole thing."

One of the board members leaned forward. "You're too valuable to this team to be benched, but we need to be clear. If something like this happens again, we'll have no other option."

"I get it," I said, trying to convey my sincerity. "It won't happen again. I promise."

Coach Reid nodded. "Alright, Travis. Just keep your head in the game and stay out of trouble."

The meeting concluded, and though the tension hadn't entirely lifted, I felt a sense of relief knowing I still had the team's support. Now, I just had to focus on proving myself on the field and keeping my personal life in check.

Later, as I settled into the my office to record the weekly New Heights podcast with Jason, I tried to push the incident out of my mind.

Jason's face appeared on the screen, and he greeted me with his trademark grin. "Hey, Trav! Ready for another episode of New Heights?"

I laughed, appreciating his energy. "Always, man. Let's do this."

We chatted for a bit, catching up on family news and the latest in football. Eventually, Jason brought up the inevitable topic.

"Alright, Trav, we've got to talk about the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Chicago Bulls matchup."

I chuckled, shaking my head. "Man, I'm a lover, not a fighter... unless provoked."

Jason raised an eyebrow, leaning closer to the camera. "So, what happened? You don't usually lose your cool like that."

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "Zach said some really messed up stuff. It was way out of line."

Jason nodded, his expression serious. "I get it. But you've got to be careful, man. Stuff like that can come back to haunt you."

"I know. Trust me, lesson learned."

We both laughed, and the lighthearted moment helped ease the lingering tension. We moved on to other topics, discussing the latest games, team dynamics, and answering fan questions. For a little while, it felt good to just be in the moment, talking football with my brother.

After the podcast wrapped up, I checked my phone and saw a missed text from Brittany.

Text from Brittany:
"Hey Travis, I'm planning you a birthday party! Can't wait to celebrate with you. 😊"

A smile spread across my face. Brittany always knew how to throw a good party, and after everything that had happened, celebrating with friends and family sounded perfect.

I quickly typed a response.

Text to Brittany:
"Thanks, Britt. I really appreciate it. Looking forward to it!"

Just as I sent the message, Jason's voice came through the speakers, interrupting my thoughts.

"Hey, Trav, you still there?"

"Yeah, I'm here," I replied, looking back at the screen.

"Just wanted to say, I'm proud of how you handled that mess. It couldn't have been easy."

"Thanks, Jase."

"Always, man. That's what family's for."

We wrapped up our call, and I sat back, feeling a sense of peace. Despite the chaos, I had the support of my family and friends.
